So my friend left me his iPhone 3G, hoping i could fix it, cause usually i have no problems replacing/fixing hardware or software for the iphone, but he loaded iPad firmware/baseband on his phone, so now it can't be reversed (so i've read/seen).

He was trying to unlock the phone, (first jailbreaking with a method he saw online using PwnageTool, then installing ultrasn0w)

when he did this, it worked, cydia showed up, all his stuff worked, but when he tried to add the source he could not, his phone doesn't detect any wifi, and when i put my ATT sim card in their, nothing happens, anyone either

A: Know how to fix the no wifi/network coverage problem?
or
B: take off the iPad firmware and put the iphone back on 4.2.1?

Please help ASAP, i've never heard of or seen this problem before

EDIT: also i have tried just simply restoring/manually restoring with custom firmwares, when trying to do it with regular firmware it error 1015 or 6005 (something like that) on me everytime, aswell as when he tried, and custom firmwares still don't get the wifi/network.

so please don't suggest that.

You can't restore with custom firmwares ever. It verifies with Apple servers to make sure it is the default and gives you those errors when it sees it isn't. The problem had to be with the iPad firmware, restore it to a normal 4.2.1, and test it out. If everything works from there, re-jailbreak using greenpois0n.

everytime i try to restore to 4.2.1 it gives me a 1015 error, anyway to bypass this error/manually update it without itunes?

Are you doind DFU and Shift + Click restore? Because if that doesn't work you can use Recovery mode. It is a last resort and will wipe everything, so if you don't care what is on it, then use this.

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes
Plug your USB cable into your computer.
Turn your iPhone off by holding the power button down until you see “slide to power off”. Do as instructed.
Now press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to your iPhone. After iPhone is connected it should power on the device.
Continue holding the Home button, you will see the Apple logo appear and then finally a “Connect to iTunes” will be displayed, now is the time to release the Home button

happens to me all the time this is all you have to do.
  1. go to settings
  2. go to general
  3. go to reset
  4. go to reset network settings
