ADDED!: do i burn the iso to a cd or dvd?

Do i have to get an XP disk that is specific to my current service pack? Or will any version do?

Any xp disc will work, if you are connected to the internet you get the latest service packs anyway.

EDIT: ok nvm, recovery console is not the way to go... Instead press enter to go to an xp installation. On the next screen, it should have a list of installations already there, press R on the installation that's there. It should proceed to repair that installation. If it doesn't, then quite out.

so this disk, is it full flegded xp? like if i wanted to reformat, i could use this? then put in my old serial key? (my old serial key is for no service pack xp. this disk is sp2. will it still work?)

the service packs don't matter. The only difference between standard XP disk, and XP disk with SP2, is that XP disk with SP2 has both SP1 and SP2 "slipstreamed" into the installation.
This is a full-fledged disks here, it will reformat and re-install with your serial key if you so choose.

ok, so i decided im not going for anything like this. at least not till my dad approves. (its the family computer im trying to fix) i figured this would be nice and simple, but its not as simple as i thought. i read some stuff on it. it says it will reset the drivers to the original or whatever... (idk, but i cant lose my drivers) and a few other things i cant let happen.

but when my dad looks at this i will ask him if he wants it done.

btw, where can i find my serial that im using?

There's a program called "keyfinder" that can do it for you. I've used this program for several computers, so I know it works. Here's the link for it:

keyfinder? very trusty. It doesn't do anything with the key besides show it via that lil textbox. Already checked it out before, and I use it when re-installing a lot.
