I have an intel i7-4790 3.6GHz CPU

Is the i7-8700K the same slot as the 4790?

I want to upgrade my CPU but don't want to change Motherboards if I don't have too.

U will need to get a new mobo since the i7-8700k uses z370 mobo and ddr4 ram
I have an i7-8700k and z370 mobo works good. Haven't overclocked yet

You have a i7-4790 which is a 4th gen Intel processor, while i7-8700K is 8th generation so no the slots are not same. If you can tell me your motherboard name/series I can suggest you what upgrades are possible!
