ok this is my problem i tried to put the new freeboot on but instead now it just boots to xellous i dont have a dvd drive so i cant use the linux technique and i still dont know exactly what is wrong :frown:
I'm afraid that's normal behaviour. fbBuild comes with 2 sets of freeBoot binaries, the default (freeBoot.bin) will boot into Xellous if no DVD Drive is attached. The second freeboot_alt.bin, behaves like freeBoot 0.032 as in it will only boot into Xellous with a controller pluged into the rear USB or powered on via the Eject button.

If it's booting to Xellous (NOT Xell, look at the last few lines of output, make sure it says 'httpd' not 'http', my JTAG is cooked so I can't quote it at the moment) you should be able to toss your new freeBoot with the 'alt' bin onto a FAT32 flash drive, use the front ports, name the bin 'updflash.bin' without quotes, and if it won't pick up the usb drive, unplug the console, plug in your usb drive, plug the power cable back in, boot it up and cross your fingers. If you need clarification or additional help please feel free to PM/IM/email me.

Well, I believe you are indeed f'ed. That's Xell, not Xellous, and you do need a DVD drive to flash unless I've missed someone finding a way around it. Is there any way you can borrow one? I know some people on eBay sell 'em for $17ish for a Hitachi/Sammy, but I'm not 100% sure you wouldn't need to flash with your own DVD key. I don't think you'd need to purely because you aren't trying to run encrypted code (games and such), just Linux.

Could be worse...you could have unJTAGed a console, used an overpowered iron to try and reJTAG after finding the problem minutes after undoing it all, and nearly killed the board. What you've got shouldn't be that tough to fix, beg/borrow/steal a 360 dvd drive from somebody, or just buy one, cause trust me, it'll come in handy for something eventually I'm sure.

If that 12volt mod was done properly i.e. they spliced into the dvd power plug, then you can still run a dvd drive off it, that's how I run all my 12v fan hacks, I just splice into a 12v pin on the cable.

Looks like it's an issue with your USB stick. Try formattig it and recopying the update to it. Failing that FTP the update to your HDD and flash with flash360, it's by the same author as Xellous so there isn't a huge difference.
would i be able to use this tut to do it

Is there no way you can borrow a friends DVD drive? it won't need flashing, can have a tray open issues etc. All you want is for it to be detected and it will boot into freeBoot, you can then reflash the freeboot_alt. Otherwise try borrowing a friends USB drive, or look around for free promotional 64MB ones etc.
