Grand Theft Auto V developers have had enough with the game modifications and hacking. Because of their frustration, Rockstar developers are looking to create something in Grand Theft Auto V, which has previously been implemented in GTA IV, called a cheater’s pool, in which people in search of the many abundant game modifications can unleash their wrath onto other alike cheaters. What they’re proposing is an online “filter” in which people, who wish to cheat, can cheat, and those who wish to play legit, can play legit. The objective behind this decision is that Rockstar developers do not condone players who wish to cheat, having an upper hand on those who wish to play the game as it was designed. In the cheater’s pool, cheaters would be allowed access to anything, that the developers intended. Something unique about Rockstar is that they recognize the enjoyment that some gamers get from modifying their games, and respect that enough to allow them to do it, but also respect the gamers who wish to play the games as they were designed.

At the release of Max Payne 3’s cheater pool, Rockstar announced that, “The move is meant to address several problematic hacks that have plagued the game’s multiplayer, including invincibility, infinite adrenaline, score cheating and more. If any players are added to the pool and later cleared of any wrongdoing, they’ll be able to re-join the general population for online multiplayer. However, a second offense will cause them to be added to the Cheaters Pool permanently. Beyond the Cheaters Pool, Rockstar will also be addressing cheats and hacks in upcoming title updates for Max Payne 3. Invalid leaderboard entries will also be removed “to ensure that the players at the top of the charts have earned their spots fairly.” With Rockstar’s acknowledgement of cheater’s resourcefulness, they recognize that banning players from a game is pointless. Many people with the ability to modify the game are also able to circumvent the developer’s attempts to ban them.
