You need a 360 with the kernel 7***. The latest kernel released on the 11th of this month blocks the possibility to run homebrew on the latest exploit. I also upgraded without knowledge of this new exploit.

Luckily I grabbed a 360 with the e74 error off ebay for $42 shipped.

A no dvd key xbox would have been cheaper... and you wouldnt have to fix it.

You don't need a dvd drive to perform this hack... No dvd key xbox is considered to be **** since they can't run games since the dvd drive and the xbox 360 can no longer comunicate since their specially unique key was lost, the great thing about this hack is that we dont need the dvd drive to install it.

lol but there is not a way to extract the key yet. even with this mod it will probably be a little longer before we can which means you cant play games on that xbox unless you use the games on demand thing and have a big *** hard drive

it will be available when the exploit its released, tmbinc is also releasing linux for this new exploit, then you just dump the keys theres no difference from the earlier consoles, its just this time its easier and works with the most recent consoles

How do you tell what kernel version an xbox has?

On the dashboard go to system settings, console settings, and at the bottom you should see "System Info". Go there. Below the warning you should see something similar to this:
D:2.0.7371.0 - K:2.0.7371.0

D standing for dashboard and K standing for kernel. If your kernel is 7*** you should be safe.

Anyways, I got my own TV now. IF I bought another 360 from like gamestop It would have a 7xxx kernel because the new xboxes don't come with the newest update.

So, last question, is there a tutorial on this yet or is it still being developed?

Or does it have to be a 7371 kernel, because I thought I heard someone in the free69 irc saying that any 7xxx kernel will work for the exploit.

This exploit discovers your CPU key without the need of doing the TA attack anymore. With your cpu key all you need to do is get a nand dump (now possible with a printer cable I think, or an infectus/cygnos) then using your cpu key, you can edit your dvd key and set your own, then reflash that image to your nand and then you should have a working dvd drive after you install the same dvd key you put in your nand. Also I make this sound simple, it really isnt at all.
