Sorry if this has been asked but my xbox 360 elite dvd drive will not detect discs at all. I sent in my 360 about 5 months ago to get the RROD fixed and got it back. Now it won't detect discs at all. I have no warranty on it and am wondering what to do. Should I open it and try to fix it myself or spend the $99 to have MS fix it? Thanks for all your help!

Hey thanks for showing me those but I'm thinking of just buying a new drive. I opened up my case and have the drive out. Its a Phillips Lite on. Should I just buy the exact same drive and put it in? I have old xbox dvd drives as well that are just layin around. Could these be used or do I just wanna buy a new Phillips?

To put a new drive in your xbox you would need to spoof it to the firmware thats on your current dvd drive.
I dont know how, but alot of others on this site do, so ask them

You don't have to buy the same drive but I recommend that you do anyway.(Unless you have a hitachi). IF you have a hitachi I would recommend to buy a Benq or Lite-on.
After you buy a new drive you need to be able to flash a 360 drive in order to swap them.

Also no you can not use the original xbox drive in your 360.

K well idk if I wanna flash it or not and do all that. But since I already have my dvd drive out should I just try to do the pot tweak first? Im sure I can find a multimeter from someone. Would that be smarter to try first instead of just getting a new drive?

ok thanks everyone. But what do I use to turn the pot? Like what screwdriver or whatever? Also, since i have opened my xbox does this mean if this doesn't work that i cant send it in to just have them fix it for the $100 dollars. I mean my warranty was already gone. I took the sticker of very carefully wit the hair dryer so should i just put it back when done?

If you have the sticker still, all you do is put it back on when you put your xbox back together.

If you plan on opening your 360 again dont put it back on. Do what i do. Get a piece of wax paper and put it on that and put it where you wont loose it. That way you dont have to take it off and on. Then if you ever need to send it in put it on and ship it.
