Hey, I needed some help. I'd like a desktop for CS:GO, but I don't want to spend too much, maybe like 450-500 range. I will be using it for School, CS:Go, Garry's Mod and TF2.

Surprise me. I'd also like CS:GO to run at least 190 FPS, and for it to be a quad-core.

What you're asking for is pretty hard to do within your budget. Below is a pretty good bang/buck build, but it does go slightly over your budget before rebates. If you wanted to shave off some money, you could change the CPU to the 6400k or find used parts. You could also downgrade the GPU, but that would be a fairly significant hit to the performance.

Could you find a nice dual core CPU perhaps? A tad cheaper maybe? A 500gv hard drive will do better as well....

I don't get the hate on corsair CPUs. You get what you pay for, it's not amazing but it's certainly not garbage. For some reason, I was under the impression that AMD CPU's don't come with coolers... don't really know why lol.

A 500GB HDD will only save you like $10. You can switch to one if you want, but I think double the capacity for $10 more is definitely worth it. Here is a build within budget before and after MIR

You will be able to play at high settings on the majority of games.

This is one is under budget before mail in rebates, no loss in performance:

Corsair Does not make PSU's they slap their logo's the AX/HX series are high end Flextronics & Seasonic OEM but the others are ****.

And the CX series was not always **** but they did the ole bait & switch once the brand got popular.

Chinese capacitors won't last.

JohnnyGuru is employed by Corsair so he may have slight bias towards them as well.

Its pretty similar I swapped the GPU to the 285 (the 380 is the same card but with more vram).

His build is better but if your strapped for cash and were hoping to spend closer to $450 this is your build.

Is the GPU alright? Will it perform? If so, I just found a build.

Its ok (kinda bad performance per dollar ratio but the 20 dollars to get the 285 over the 370 is a huge deal.

The cheapest 285 is $190, same as the 380. GTX 950 is between 370 and 380 prices, but is significantly better than the 370 for an extra $20.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/r3ZHmG
2 cores is enough for what you're wanting to do so the G3258 will do you fine, with it's better per core performance. Overclock the G3258 for better performance, should easily get 4.5GHz+. 120GB should be enough for OS, a few small games like CSGO, and school work but you might want to grab a 1TB HDD instead of the SSD.

The 285's keep going on sale for $155 after $20 rebate if u check every few days.

The g3258 is a terrible choice the chip is not able to hold up in games like GTA V the frame latency is insane don't just look at FPS look at FCats.

Also overclocking the g3258 a decnet amount requires a $70 mobo + just get the Athlon 860k. Which can also run background tasks while gaming without insane stutters. Go ask people who have the pentium how **** they are when u try to use even **** like curse/skype when gaming in games like GTA V.

The cheapest 285 is $190. Rebates aren't the pricing, many people don't get rebates. Stop using rebates in the pricing of components. OP is not playing GTA V as far as we're aware, the G3258 is perfectly fine for what OP will be doing, and will perform better than the 860k. Overclocking the G3258 is incredibly easy and can be done on budget boards, easily.

Well why list a pentium when it has issues on later games just get the 860k it destroys the Pentium in games (look at fcats not FPS) its not fun having stuttering in every game.

Would you say that would get me running CS: GO at mostly high settings at a solid FPS of 150+?
