Vegas is good for simple/beginner stuff, you can do much more with After effects.

3ds max and AAE, but if your not familiar with AAE , use Vegas first as a stepping stone.

I use neither, I normaly have a cinematic version of the gameplay (if im making a game) with text over it. Although im going to try out Cinema 4D. Thats if theres a free trial or i can find a serial for it.
