Solved avatar awards with modded achievements?

if i mod an achievement that has an avatar reward do i get the avatar reward or can you only get it by unlocking the achievement legit?
i have read that recovering your gamertag works is that true?

Its possible,but its a bit difficult to do.You might have to hex edit in order to get it,but I havent tried it.I have modded my avatar,but I didnt get avatar achievements.
