Many people who have jailbroken using redsn0w may have noticed that it only comes with cydia and not installer. here is a simple tutorial on how to get installer.

Step 1: download installer.app from [Click here to view the link] (in order to extact the folder you will need to use [Click here to view the link])

Step 2: SSH in to your ipod touch (if you are unsure of how to do this simply fallow this tutorial here it will cover everything you need to complete this step)

Step 3: Go to the / <root> directory of your ipod

Step 4: drag in the installer.app folder in to applications

Step 5: open up terminal by pressing CTRL+T

    ^^Simply press OK^^

Step 7: type the fallowing commands one after another pressing execute in between them
    Code:
    chmod -R 777 "/Applications/Installer.app"
    chmod a+srx "/Applications/Installer.app/Installer"
    killall SpringBoard

Your ipod will now respring its self and you should have installer on your ipod however if you can respring your ipod with the app called "respring" (you can find it in cydia)

the nike+ipod image is for proof that its on a 2nd gen ipod since you can not get that on any other ipod or iphone

    And what might that be?

Installer is basically the older version of cydia.

? cydia only has a homepage hosted on the web if that doesnt load it doesnt affect the rest because the links to the downloads are stored on your ipod (thats why you can look at them off line) once you click install it goes to the individual website that the app is hosted on and downloads it (thats why when you add sources)

I still get a ton of failed DL's which makes me sad probably my crappy WiFi. So what features does Installer bring that cydia can't provide?

Did you put the installer.app folder in the correct directory.

You may also try to download terminal off cydia and enter them on your ipod
