Discussion 360 remote for regular XBOX?

Is it possible? I was thinking about cutting the wires on my 360 wired remote and my regular XBOX wired remote. Would I be able to put the cables together and use my 360 remote on my old XBOX? I don't want to do this and mess up 2 remotes for nothing. (I know, I can put them back together)
