Does anyone have some wishlists or builds that I could look at while I research my new PC? This is my first build ever and would appreciate some direction. I can go slightly over budget for certain premium parts (processor, mobo, maybe GPU).

Thanks!

GTX 670.
i5-3570K
WD Caviar Black 1TB
850W Corsair
Antec 900 Case
8GB RAM
ASUS Z77 MoBo

Total: $1,300

NVIDIA silently released their GTX 670 today and it offers very close performance to that of the 680, whilst being $100 cheaper. It easily competes with AMD's HD 7950, and even beats the 7970 in certain games. Definitely a very good card.

If you wanna save $30 on the CPU, you can get an i5-2500K. It offers slightly worse performance, but it beats the 3570K in overclocking. I chose the Ivy Bridge though because it's the current gen, and also is compatible with PCI E 3.0, which the GTX 670 uses.

1TB Caviar Black - Can never go wrong with that.

850W should be plenty enough for an overclocked 670 and 3570K.

8GB RAM is more than enough for gaming.

Case has VERY good reviews on Newegg.

Motherboard is excellent.

Overall an exceptional build, and only $100 over your budget.

Intel Core i7 3930K - Corsair Vengence 16GB DDR3 Memory - Gigabyte X79-UD3 Motherboard [MBB-I73930] this is insane you would never have to upgrade and i also suggest duel radeon 6870s with a 850 watt power supply and a 60gb SSD just to boot your OS on and it will load in under 10 seconds then of course a 1tb hard drive for games and stuff
I believe this is the link you were trying to post: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/motherboardbundles/mbb-i73930.html

I compiled the parts on newegg, and then converted the price to GBP and got a total of 590 pounds, whilst the bundle costs 780 pounds (difference of 190 pounds). Horrible rip-off.

You'll most likely spend a majority of the budget on the graphics card, maybe a cheaper Radion, since those are some of the best graphics cards IMO.

For the motherboard, you'll most likely want to stay within the 200 price range, maybe more, but you can get some really nice ones for around there. For the case, you can definitely get some cheaper nice looking ones, for around 100-150 and in that range. For the core system, obviously i7 intel, as that is quite a nice one. Try looking around on NewEgg, you'll be sure to find some good deals there.

The cards you quoted are absolute **** for a $1200, 2012 build. NVIDIA's newest GPU's (Kepler) are the way to go for high-end gaming right now.

Thanks, infecthead, I'm thinking I'll go with your build over what I have cooked up. I checked some of the GTX 670 reviews and it looks good. Appreciate the help!

Yeah I was quite pleasantly surprised when it was released. The price + performance is simply unbeatable. That will be a MONSTER of a build

The new GTX 6xx series cards are notorious for quickly selling out. You may be lucky and find one on other sites such as microcenter or your local PC shop. I highly recommend them though

If you can build that build with those specs for $800 please enlighten me from where... without going AMD.

NewEgg Prices:
Sugo Series SG07-B - $185.99
Samsung Slim Drive - $23.99
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 560Ti (448 Cores - Fermi - 1280MB) - $289.99
Corsair XMS3 16GB 1600 - $109.99
i5 2500k - $219.99
Win7 Pro - $139.99
Corsair h60 Liquid CPU Cooler - $60.00
WD Caviar Black 1TB - $134.99
(I used this instead due to I already had an extra drive for my friend) OCZ Vertex 4 128gig SSD - $139.99
ASRock z77e-itx - $149.99
That total comes to: $1320 without the 1TB Drive and shipping.

Guaranteed you could get some of this parts cheaper from MircoCenter and some other places, but no where near the mark of $800.

Although, if you switched MoBo, lowered the ram size to 8gbs, didn't need a Win7, you could cut around $200 off, but you'd still be in the $1100 range, because even if you switched Cases and added a different PSU, you'd be around the same price with the SG07-B case.

Also, this build that you posted, WOULD BE THE BUILD I'D GO WITH.Due to Ivy Bridge and the GTX 670.
I was just posting a Mini Build, I did for a friend.

GTX 670.
i5-3570K
WD Caviar Black 1TB
850W Corsair
Antec 900 Case

ASUS Z77 MoBo

Sorry didn't see the 448 cores.

Anyway, granted my build has a 1TB 7200RPM HDD, no watercooling and 8GB of RAM (which is more than enough), although the GTX 670 and the i5-3570K are both better than your CPU/GPU, and I picked an ASUS Z77 MoBo (with ASUS boards being undoubtedly the best). I find it more important to spend big on CPU + GPU as this build is for gaming which plays heavily with those two components.

Also I find the 560 Ti 448 a pretty poor choice. They are only a LE, so if your friend wants to pick up another for SLI down the road it could be a bit difficult...

Well, it was a mini case, so he couldn't SLI anyways + he just wanted a travel-gaming/lan computer.
..but if you didn't see my edit, I already said your build would be the way to go, but remember if the OP doesn't have a copy of Win7 he'll have to tack on an extra $110 at the least and a like $40+ drive, lol, you forgot two small things.
and remember right now the i5 Ivy Bridge only pushes out like a 7%-18% increase from the 2500K, but there is plenty of more time for tweaks, but there is without a doubt the 670 would be a better choice, but right now the only choice really is the Galaxy one which is roughly around $439.99.

That's not a huge problem. Like I said in OP, I'm willing to go over budget for premium CPU, MoBo, and maybe video card. The extra forty dollars for the galaxy card isn't a deal breaker if the consensus says that's the best card available in the 670 range.

You're right about the optical drive, although your average one costs $19.99. Reason I didn't include an OS though is because he might not want Windows 7, or might not want Windows 7 Ultimate, or he already has another OS he wants to use, or he wants to obtain W7 another way etc.. It's easier if it's just up to the builder to decide.

You're right in regards to Ivy Bridge offering only ~15% performance increase, but an increase is an increase. Not to mention Ivy Bridge supports PCIE 3.0 which the GTX 670 runs off, therefore the card will fully be able to utilise it.

I guess I underestimated your build lol. I just saw 560 Ti (didn't see 448 ) and an i5-2500K so I just thought it would be around the $800 mark. Plus your build has watercooling , which if the OP wants more overclocking speed at the same temps would be a must. I didn't include it because I'm not too knowledgeable in useful watercooling parts, and also because the temps of the GTX 670 are pretty low in terms of the calibre of the card.

Also boxer the videocard I listed seems to be in stock. It's got higher clock speeds (the card is factory overclocked) than the Galaxy equivalent, and MSI makes great cards. Plus it's got an average of 5/5 eggs from 14 reviews. Would definitely buy ASAP.

I would, but the damn thing is always out of stock whenever I remember to go and check. My local store seems to only carry 560ti's, so I'm out of luck. Or just lazy.
