As expected after services like the PlayStation Store and Steam launched their respective holiday sales, Microsoft has followed suit. The Countdown to 2018 sale is now live on the Xbox Store, discounting hundreds of games for Xbox One and Xbox 360. All of these are available now, but there will also be a new daily deal rotated in every day to keep players checking in frequently.

This sale is open to all Xbox Live members, but those with an Xbox Live Gold membership will save as much as an additional 10% on "most" deals. Many of fall's big releases are discounted; Gold members can pick up Star Wars: Battlefront II for $36 ($42 without Gold), Call of Duty: WWII for $45 ($50), Destiny 2 for $39 ($45), Assassin's Creed Origins for $40 ($45), NBA 2K18 for $39 ($45), FIFA 18 for $24 ($30), and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus for $36 ($42). Three other big fall releases sport prices that are identical for Xbox Live Gold and non-Gold members alike: Cuphead is $17, Forza Motorsport 7 is $39, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War is $42.

Many older titles are on sale as well, including Forza Horizon 3 for $25 and its expansion pass (consisting of the Blizzard Mountain and Hot Wheels DLC packs, which are both great) for $10.49. There's also a pricing quirk that returns from the Black Friday sale; The Witcher 3 sells for $20 (or $24 without Gold), but the Complete Edition--which includes its solid DLC expansions--sells for the same price for Gold members (or $25 without Gold). Other deals of note include:

    • Axiom Verge -- $10 ($12)
    • Bastion -- $7.50 ($9)
    • Dark Souls III -- $20 ($24)
    • DMC: Devil May Cry -- $10 ($12 without Gold)
    • Doom -- $20 ($22.49)
    • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition -- $26 ($30)
    • Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition -- $36 ($42)
    • Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition -- $30 ($36)
    • Prey -- $26 ($30)
    • Rocket League -- $12 ($14)
    • Sunset Overdrive -- $7.50 ($10)
    • What Remains of Edith Finch -- $13 ($15)
    • Yooka-Laylee -- $20 ($24)

Also in this sale, you'll find discounted versions of numerous Xbox 360 games. These include those that are playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility, such as Red Dead Redemption for $10 ($13), Call of Duty: Black Ops II for $20 ($25), Skate 3 for $6.59 ($8.59), and Fallout 3 for $5 ($6.44).

More than 650 deals in all are available across the two platforms, according to Microsoft. And, as noted above, you'll also find a daily deal; the first of these is Halo Wars 2 for $16 (or $20 without Gold). You can see all the deals for yourself here; the sale runs from now through December 31.
