Xbox One TV DVR & New Accessories Unveiled

Being able to watch live television on your Xbox One has been available to users for some time now. However, the ability to record the shows you're watching straight to your hard drive through some sort of DVR system, was never implemented. Rather, the process of recording shows is handled by your existing cable box. That is going to change next year, with a new, free DVR feature. An official date of release has yet to be announced, although Microsoft did say that it will work well with Windows 10, allowing users to watch their recordings on a PC or any other connected device. They also said that the TV DVR functionality would not interfere with the Xbox One's overall performance.

This is not all Microsoft announced at their Gamescom briefing. They have finally unveiled an official Microsoft chatpad, looking very similar to the Xbox 360 chatpad with a few new buttons and a slightly different shape.

Along with these new additions to the Xbox One features and accessories, comes the impressive Halo 5: Guardians special edition controllers and limited edition Xbox One console. Shown below in the spoiler, they are made to represent the two opposing characters (Agent Locke and the Master Chief), that will be playable in-game. The Master Chief edition is army green and black, including a shiny goldish-orange D-pad, and designs on the handles that represent Master Chief's Mjolnir armor. While the Agent Locke controller is more of a grayish-silver, featuring a blue D-pad, and the numbers of the four Spartans Agent Locke is pursuing on the side.

The limited edition console will be a 1TB model, and is available for preorder now. For those of you interested, the bundled console will come with an Agent Locke controller and a digital copy of Halo 5. Launching on October 20, at a price tag of $500.

After announcing all of this at the briefing yesterday, Microsoft and Seagate announced today that they'll be partnering to release a new 2TB external USB 3.0 hard drive for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. It will cost $110 when it launches later this year, although a specific date was not disclosed.

Overall, I think the new accessories and console are true works of art, being phenomenally crafted down to very miniscule details. Also, I think the DVR feature has great potential, thus wiping out the need to pay extra to your cable provider for the same ability to record live television.
