Major Nelson announced today that Microsoft have started accepting applications from the public, for what will be the 2013 update for the Xbox 360 dashboard. Firstly, the update will increase the overall performance of the Xbox 360 console; allowing for quicker boot-up times. Beyond that, we really don't know what the 'overall' performance update will include. Also, as announced at E3, we will see the complete removal of Microsoft Points, to be replaced by real money.

If you are interested in participating in the beta, you must register your application through your Xbox 360 console, through the "Xbox Beta Program", which can be found on the Xbox 360 dashboard. If you get accepted into the Beta, there's a strong possibility that you won't be able to revert back to the old dashboard. This means if any errors occur, you'll be stuck with it until the full release. However, if you want to participate in the beta, then do it fast! This is because the beta will close once all the spots have been filled!

"Unlike our previous beta programs, sign up is now accessed directly through your Xbox 360 console to streamline the experience. Space is limited, so once the spots are filled the beta will be closed to the public," announced Major Nelson.

So, will you be applying for the Beta? Are you looking forward to the removal of Microsoft Points, or the speedy boot-up? Let us know in the comments below.
