Back in 2012, former Team Bondi members began work on Whore of the Orient, which has been hailed as the spiritual successor to L.A. Noire. The game was expected to launch in 2015, but had suffered many issues during development, from losing their publisher to laying off members of the team. The issues they faced left the game effectively dead for several years, until today. David Proud, a former producer of the game, has said he doesn't believe it will ever see a release.

Proud said he and other developers, including studio head Brendan McNamara, "fought to keep that project alive," but they were unable to save the game and ultimately it was "wrapped-up" by the parent company and producer, Kennedy Miller Mitchell. Proud and many other developers have since moved on to other studios and Team Bondi since closed down.

Whore of the Orient was set during 1936 in corrupt Shanghai. That sets the time-frame right at the time China had entered its modernization period due to Western influence, until the Kuomintang began ruthlessly putting down labor movements in an effort to suppress communism, whilst the International Police Force attempt to keep the peace. Early gameplay was leaked which you can see here.

The game was faced with the hard task of finding a publisher in the early development stages, but was later picked up by Kennedy Miller Mitchell, which was made up of many former Team Bondi members. It was in the early months of 2013 that the game dropped off of the map due to many of the developers being laid off. Even with receiving $200,000 in funding from the Australian government, the game could not continue forward.
