Ah, Timesplitters...... a game in which ensuing violence, side-splitting hilarity and cyborg chimps could define anyone's childhood. If anyone has played this, then they know of how entertaining this game was. For sometime now, we have been seeing an array of spectacle and even confirmation from Crytek itself that a Timesplitters 4 would be introduced to current or even next generation consoles, but now we know differently. The game will instead be fan-produced and dubbed as Timesplitters Rewind.
Project lead, Micheal Hubricka, has announced that a team of 35 developers, some in which are original members of Free Radical, are developing the title with a list of original maps, characters, weapons that are slated to return. The game will be re-worked with CryEngine 3 and released on the PS4. Since it is using that certain engine ,this could mean there is a chance that the title could not make it to retail, since it would need approval from Crytek's legal department to release on Sony's console; in which the team is working very hard to obtain.
"We're actually going to go ahead and start development [of Timesplitters Rewind] on Playstation 4. Just because we're pretty confident Crytek's going to go ahead and do it. But we don't want them saying go ahead and do it when we're caught with our pants down and we're like halfway through development and [then] start something for the PlayStation 4.
"So we decided that since they released the SDK to allow us to do this, we're going to go ahead and do it ourselves, and when they say 'yes' or 'no' we can decide what to do with that. For now we're just going to go ahead and do it, so at least we're prepared," he said.
The team is planning to release parts of the game as a playable alpha version, but we will know more in time as when it will be available. So what are your thoughts on this new development for Timesplitters? I think it is refreshing to get a possibility for a release after years of waiting. Please let me know what you think in the comments.
