As the Star Wars: Battlefront release date closes in, DICE has finally released the Star Wars: Battlefront Companion App. You can download the app on the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, or you can access the companion at StarWarsBattlefront.com. The companion app will allow you to connect with your friends, track all of your Star Wars: Battlefront progress, and play Base Command to earn in-game credits. With that out of the way, let’s move on to Base Command, how to play, and what you can earn.

Base Command is a card game that you can play whether or not you own a copy of Star Wars: Battlefront. The game will revolve around the player defending a Rebel base from Imperial forces. You’ll have to fight off the Empire by using an array of Star Cards, which will allow you to use things such as vehicles, weapons, and power-ups. All of which you’ll see in Star Wars: Battlefront.

The Siege mode in Base Command is turn-based. In each game turn, the Imperial forces will move closer and closer to your base with the ill-intent to reduce it to mere rubble. If you play your Star Cards right, you’ll not only defeat the oncoming forces, but you’ll earn Credits to use in Star Wars: Battlefront.

In Base Command, you’ll have two decks of cards to utilize. The first deck of cards is called Unit Cards. This deck will consist of Rebel Soldiers, A-wings, T-47 airspeeders, and X-wings. All you have to do to engage an enemy unit in combat is to place down a Unit Card of your own. After combat begins, the win will be determined by factors such as the amount of firepower one unit has compared to the one it’s opposing. Each Unit Card you have will also have a specific number of preset attacks it can use. The battle between two units will be completed when both units have completely expended all of their attacks, or one unit has defeated the other.

The second deck players will have available to use will, of course, be Star Cards. Star Cards can be used alongside Unit Cards to help enhance certain features of them. For example, you can place the Cycler Rifle Star Card on a Rebel Soldier Unit Card to bring a nice increase to your soldier's firepower. Star Cards uses aren’t limited to enhancements though. You can also use them to deliver devastating direct attacks like an Orbital Strike, which will deliver massive amounts of damage to an entire section of the playing board.

Base Command will also contain a decent selection of modifiers designed for enemy units which are called “Perks.” In every Siege you play, there will always be different enemy units using a variety of different perks. These perks will allow the Imperial forces to use special abilities that will make wiping them out a bit more challenging than expected. For example, the Protected Perk will allow the enemy unit to become invulnerable to the first attack delivered against it. While this may make combat a bit more difficult, it won’t make the odds uneven. With one well-aimed shot from your Base Cannon, the Protected Perk will be completely removed, tipping the scales to equally favor both sides.

Beware, the fight can get extremely tough when the enemy has their best Perks invested in the best unit. For example, of Darth Vader got his hands on the Protected Perk and the Overload Perk, he’ll become even more of a force to be reckoned with. The Protected Perk will block all damage from the first attack, and the Overload Perk will allow him to unleash all of his most powerful attacks within the first round of the battle. This will usually take out many Rebel Units before they even have a chance to get a shot off. So it’s up to you to (literally) play your cards right in order to secure the victory.

In addition to all of this, every Star Card you earn in Star Wars: Battlefront can be used in Base Command. The further you progress in the game means your Base Command deck will get stronger and stronger. Base Command will contain 50 Sieges which will steadily increase in difficulty as you progress through them. Each Siege will give players a new challenge to face by switching up enemy units and modifiers.

Between today and November 17th, the first campaign of 8 Sieges will be available. Once Star Wars: Battlefront releases on November 17th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, All 50 Sieges in Base Command will be live. Make sure you check Base Command out and put your skills to the test.
