As always, Steam has a bunch of games on sale right now. The standout of the sale is the Witcher series. All three Witcher games, along with the expansions, are available at steep discounts. If you're going to play The Witcher, you'll probably want to start at the beginning. This series leans heavily on its fantastic story, with characters and relationships carrying over and evolving throughout all three games. Set in a dark fantasy world, the series follows a monster hunter for hire named Geralt of Rivia.

The first game came out 11 years ago. In our Witcher review, we scored it 8.5/10 and called it "one of the deepest, most adult role-playing games to hit the PC in years. Polish developer CD Projekt has crafted one of those landmark games that move the goalposts for everybody, a truly grown-up take on swords and sorcery that breaks just about every fantasy tradition in the book." The enhanced edition is on sale on Steam for $1.49 / £1 right now.

The sequel landed in 2011. In our The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings review, we gave it 9/10 and said, "This distinguished game makes an important statement: Visual beauty, challenging the action, and game-changing decisions can coexist in a modern RPG. In one beauteous stroke, The Witcher 2 has raised the stakes." You can buy the enhanced edition on Steam for $3 / £2.

And finally in 2015 came the series' stunning conclusion. In our The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt review, we scored it 10/10, saying, "Make no mistake: this is one of the best role-playing games ever crafted, a titan among giants and the standard-setter for all such games going forward." It also got two sizable (and also excellent) expansions. The Game of the Year Edition includes all of the content and is currently on sale for $20 / £14 on Steam.

If you play through the several hundred hours you can spend in The Witcher series, you might find yourself looking for something else to play. Other popular games in the Steam sale are Plague Inc: Evolved ($6), Mount and Blade ($3) and its expansions ($3 - $7), and Farm Manager 2018 ($17). Check those out if you're into epidemiology, battle strategy, or harvesting crops, respectively. You can find all of these games on Steam's sale page.
