EA continues to make headlines with its announcements over the past week, and as of yesterday they just announced a sequel to one of their most popular games out today. Teases were released earlier this year, suggesting that EA would be making a sequel to Star Wars Battlefront, but nothing was confirmed or denied by the company. As of yesterday, however, news broke that confirmed a second Star Wars Battlefront is currently undergoing production and should be released sometime early next year. It should be no surprise that EA is making a second one, as the first Battlefront game sold nearly 14 million copies over the course of just six months. So far, two DLC packs have been released for Battlefront, with two more still expected sometime this year.
In addition to announcing their newest game, EA also gave some rather juicy details about their upcoming title. CFO Blake Jorgensen stated that the second edition of Battlefront will have "bigger and better worlds", as well as feature exclusive content from the newest Star Wars movies. The said content was not named, however it will be refreshing to see the newer movies being used in the newer games. Battlefront featured content from the original Star Wars trilogy, something that has been done over and over again in previous Star Wars based games. Jorgensen also confirmed that there will be a Star Wars action type game coming from Dead Space studio Visercal and Motive, however a release date has not been named for that either. He also touched upon the most recent announcement that came from Respawn a week ago, about the "all new third person action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe", but he did not go into too much detail.
To top all of that, Jorgensen made public that EA plans to release a new Star Wars game every year for the next four years, similar to what is currently happening with the new Star Wars movies. Although the next Battlefront game is set to come out sometime during early 2017, no other possible dates were given on the games following it. No platforms were named during the announcement either, but one can assume that these games will only be for next generation consoles only, as well as for PC users. EA is playing it smart this year and actually listening to fans and getting their feedback, something that has plagued them in the past and caused significant drops in sales.
