Sony Reveals New PS4 Exclusive Spider-Man at E3

The road of the Spider-Man gaming genre has been bumpy, dull, and full of skepticism for quite some time. The last game that was considered good overall was Spider-Man 2, released back in 2004. Since then, no Spider-Man game has really been able to compete, improve, or otherwise match the feeling and success of that installment. Now, fans are once again tasked with deciding if the web-slinging series will be revived, or be a game that will have very little to show for itself.

During last night's E3 briefing, Sony announced that Marvel and Insomniac Games have partnered up to bring us a PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game that aims to break the stale past, and revitalize the series in a way that brings new experiences, but at the same time, presents fans with 'the good 'ol Spidey' we all have come to love. However within the game, we will not be seeing the birth of Spider-Man, but instead a rather seasoned web-slinger that has been in character for quite some time. He will be tasked with maintaining the balance of his personal life and 'career choice' in a way that will probably give fans hard choices that may effect the outcome of the games story-line.
"This isn’t the Spider-Man you’ve met before, or seen in a movie. This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of nine million New Yorkers rests upon his shoulders."
Like it says in the quote, the game will not be a precursor or reference to any Marvel movies, despite having a similar costume design to that of Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. Adding to that, there have also been some opinionated thoughts about the new look Spider-Man has been given. While we obviously still get the classic red and blue, there has also been the addition of a white, and rather large, spider logo on the chest of Peter. I personally like the look, but others are not as satisfied. Though, I think it is more important to have a successful core gameplay and nostalgic feel, over how I look in the game. Who knows, maybe we have a choice of wardrobe like we've seen in past games. Also, in case you are wondering about the new look, or any other aspects of the reveal, here is the trailer from E3 2016.

As far as I could find, there is no release date set for the new Spider-Man, but fans can expect the game on PS4 consoles 'soon' as stated by PlayStation. Also, the hashtag #SpidermanPS4 has been set up for discussion (or hate rants) on Twitter if that is your thing.

With all that, what are your thoughts? Do you think we will once again have a game worthy of being titled Spider-Man? Post your comments below!
