During Samsung's ‘IFA Unpacked 2 conference, Samsung showed us that Smart Phones aren't the only thing they can build. Everyone anticipated that the Galaxy Note 4 would make its appearance today, but that isn't what everyone is talking about after leaving the event. Alongside the Note 4, Samsung unveiled three new gadgets, the Galaxy Note Edge, Gear S, and Gear VR.
Though there has been little to no information regarding the Galaxy Note 4, Samsung decided to give a few details on what makes it a better version than its predecessor. The first noticeable difference is the case. Stepping away from the plastic look that has been used in the past, the new version features a metal band outlining the side of the device with a soft back cover and is being offered in four different colors: black, white, gold or pink. The most notable improvements are the 5.7 inch Quad-High Definition Super AMOLED display and improved processor allowing you to run the new multi-window feature. This new installment allows the user to run more than one app in a split screen design and utilizes the S Pen to its full functionality. Samsung was sure to note that these upgraded features would cause a loss of battery life, but has taken this into effect by tweaking the device, giving the user 8% more battery life.

Alongside the Galaxy Note 4 announcement, the first accessory for the device, the Gear VR, was presented. In partnership with Oculus, Samsung created a virtual reality machine that will give you an untethered 360 degree 3D experience when your phone is placed inside of the headset. What makes this possible is the Note 4’s Amoled screen, super accuracy sensors and its upgraded processor, making for a no lag, 96 degree high quality view. The design is built with a trackpad and back button on the right side of the VR with a focus button settled on top. Head movements and taps on the trackpad will be your main form of control, whether you are playing games, navigating through the menus, or exploring other worlds. The accessory is set to be released sometime this autumn with no word on a specific date.

The Galaxy Note Edge seems like it might make its way to the top of the list of must have phones, possibly surpassing Samsung’s own S series. This phone shares all of the same upgrades as the Note 4 with a 5.6-inch display, sophisticated metallic design, 16-megapixel camera, upgraded processor, memory, and multi-window feature. What distinctively sets it apart is the innovative curved display. The main display is connected to the side display by a smaller screen leaving it with a connected and smooth design. Though no information has been given on the functionality of the screen, we can assume that it will be used solely as a quick launch taskbar or to display notifications from third party apps. Samsung has also formed a partnership with Yahoo that gives the Edge the ability to stream media such as sports and news updates to the devices side screen instead of its main display.

Despite its predecessor being unsuccessful, Samsung decided to take wearable technology to the next level by making a watch that was not only good at telling time, but making a wearable smartphone. With the curved screen design of the Gear Fit combined with the more square shape of the Gear Pro, it makes full use of Samsung’s proprietary Tizen operating system. The watch features a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 3G antenna and a small 300mAh battery, giving the watch an expected battery life of around two days. It also comes with an IP67 certification, making it both dustproof and water resistant. A release date has not been set but is expected to be released in the next few weeks to compete with Apples iWatch release.
