But that doesn’t mean they’re coming to other headsets

Both the VR-compatible Resident Evil 7 biohazard and Batman Arkham VR will be exclusively available on PlayStation VR — at least, for a limited time. An ad on the Facebook page for PlayStation Europe suggests that both games will have timed platform exclusivity for up to a year.

Resident Evil 7, according to PlayStation’s post, will remain a PlayStation VR exclusive throughout 2017. When reached for comment, a representative for Capcom confirmed that the game would only be available for the headset at launch in January, with no plans to bring it to other platforms for the time being.

That’s despite the full game launching on Windows PC alongside consoles. Capcom announced the seventh Resident Evil title during Sony’s E3 2016 event, pointing toward a relationship between the publishers that could have led to the exclusivity period.

As for Batman Arkham VR, the ad on Facebook says it will be exclusive to PlayStation VR until March 31, 2017. As a PlayStation VR launch title, the brief adventure game will arrive Oct. 13. We’ve contacted its publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, for clarity on whether Batman VR will launch on other platforms following the exclusivity period, and will update with more when we receive it.

PlayStation VR requires the PlayStation 4 to operate, and its library boasts both exclusive titles and those with VR-compatible features. Resident Evil 7 falls into the latter camp; the headset is not necessary to play the game. In fact, for some, it makes the survival horror title all the more unpleasant.

Expect our review of the new hardware later this week, ahead of next week’s retail release. When PlayStation VR hits stores, it will cost $399.
