Plus, a special seventh-gen guest appearance

Pokémon Go will feature a batch of new Pokémon for players to catch starting this week, Niantic confirmed. To coincide with this year’s in-game Halloween promotion, five Pokémon from the series’ third generation of monsters will begin appearing worldwide.

The Halloween event kicks off at 12 p.m. PT on Oct. 20 and runs until Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. PT. During this timeframe, players will run into increased numbers of several ghost-type or just generally “spooky” Pokémon like Gengar, Cubone and Misdreavus. But they’ll also get their first opportunity to collect Pokémon from the Hoenn region, the setting of 2002’s Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. These will all be ghost-type Pokémon, including Dusclops, Sableye and Shuppet.

More Hoenn region Pokémon will begin to appear throughout Pokémon Go “starting gradually as early as this December,” Niantic said. The game’s latest update already has badges for catching third-gen Pokémon, and dataminers have found tons of details about their upcoming debut, so keep an eye out for those.

New monsters aside, fans of the series’ most recent games will appreciate another treat: a hat for players’ avatars that looks like Mimikyu, everyone’s favorite off-brand Pikachu. That’s our first taste of the current Pokémon generation to come to Pokémon Go, which is a nice surprise.

There will also be special item boxes on sale that include Raid passes and Super Incubators, as well as doubled candy rewards. Buddy Pokémon will collect candy twice as fast during the event’s duration as well.

And don’t forget to keep an eye out for a special costumed Pikachu. This seasonal event introduces a little Pikachu wearing a witch’s hat into the wild. It’s pretty cute.
