Today at CES, Sony revealed it's video game streaming service Playstation Now. With this new service powered by Gaikai, gamers will be able to play "classic" (PS1/PS2/PS3) titles on the recently released Playstation 4 and the PS Vita. Sony will eventually move past gaming systems and allow TVs, smartphones, and even tablets to play these great games.
"PS Now will allow users to engage in the world of PlayStation, whether they're existing fans or have never owned a PlayStation platform." - Andrew House
House went on to say that Playstation Now will be tested in parts of the United States later this month and that Playstation Now will see it's full launch this coming summer.
Four games are being tested on the show floor at CES, these include The Last of Us, Puppeteer, Beyond: Two Souls, and God of War: Ascension. No word on how many more titles will make it to the launch of Playstation Now, but we can assume that this library of games will grow exponentially over time.
Playstation Now will be a subscription based service, but will also allow users to rent games on a game-to-game basis. No word on pricing or if PS+ members will get any benefits at the moment, but we should be hearing something very soon. It's also worth noting that things like multiplayer and Trophies will also be available on these titles.
All this comes after the announcement that 4.2 million Playstation 4's have been sold as of December 28th, 9.7 million games have been sold, and that PS+ subscriptions have jumped an impressive 90% since the launch of the Playstation 4.
