Fans of the popular game Plants vs. Zombies may be happy to hear that developer Popcap games has been working on a new installment in the series. PvZ: Garden Warfare is a class based first person shooter similar to TF2. The game is very fast paced and focuses on teamwork to complete objectives and ultimately win matches.
Some of the games features:
  • Powerful character classes for both plants and zombies
  • Choose your side, plants or zombies, in 24-player online battles
  • Join forces with friends in online 4-player cooperative mode
  • Personalize your favorite plants and zombies with hundreds of unique items and customizations
  • Over 10 unique multiplayer and cooperative battlegrounds

One of the games main gametypes, described as a mix of Battlefield's Rush and Conquest modes, displays the games emphasis on teamwork and team based strategies. This gametype is called Gardens and Graveyards.

The game will feature multiple classes for both Plants and Zombies. The classes look familiar to those found in TF2, each with their own playstyle and abilities. On the zombie side we have 4 unique classes, All-star, Soldier, Engineer, and Scientist.

All-star
This class is similar to TF2's Heavy class. The All-star is equipped with a minigun style football cannon.
  • Imp Punt
This seems pretty self explanatory, using this ability you will be able to punt an Imp probably as a long range projectile.
  • Sprint Tackle
This ability displayed in the first video, allows the All-star to charge at an enemy and temporarily incapacitate them for a short amount of time.
  • Dummy Shield
This is a defensive ability that lets you shield yourself from harm.

Soldier
This class is your standard infantry class. He is equipped with a rocket launcher and a Z-1 Assault Blaster.
  • ZPG
This is the rocket launcher that is exclusive to this class and it is classified as an ability.
  • Zombie Stink Cloud
I haven't really seen this ability in action, but I think it's safe to assume its a smoke bomb of sorts that would be used as a diversion.
  • Rocket JumpThis ability uses the ZPG to launch your character in the air, making it easy to reach high places.

Engineer
This class is mainly a support class and is equipped with a concrete launcher. This class can build defenses for the zombies as well as teleporters.
  • Jackhammer
This ability allows your character to hop on a jackhammer. This looks like its used mainly for faster travel, but it may be a defense against burrowing plants as well.
  • Zombot Turret
This ability allows you to man an airborne device used for light combat and reconnaissance, occasionally allowing you to call in an airstrike.
  • Sonic Grenade
This ability is most likely a grenade that discharges a 'sonic boom' and is devastating to the enemy, but I have yet to see it in action.

Scientist
This class is also mainly support from what I've seen and is equipped with a medic-gun looking Zomboss Goo Blaster.
  • Zombie Heal Station
This ability allows you to heal teammates.
  • Sticky Explody Ball
This looks to be a sticky bomb of sorts.
  • WARP
I haven't seen this ability in action, but I'm guessing it has something to do with teleportation.

As far as plant classes go, there hasn't been much info or gameplay released, however most of the core class elements carry over. The abilities will most likely vary. Each character also has unique unlockable weapon attachments as well as accessories and possibly bonus outfits. Overall, this game looks pretty promising and I'm looking forward to picking up a copy in February. What do you guys think?
