Nintendo Switch’s biggest system update yet adds plenty of cool, useful things — but a feature to help players locate their misplaced controllers may be the coolest and most useful. Version 3.00 adds a feature that uses Switch controllers’ vibration functionality to make them easier to track down. In the console’s controller menu, the new “Find Controller” section shows all live, paired controllers associated with it. Selecting them causes them to vibrate.
What might be most fun about this feature is the sweet honking sound that the vibration makes — at least, if you’ve got your Joy-Con on the right surface. Gaming YouTuber Balrog tweeted about the secret best way to use the Find Controller option, which is for some quality music-making.
This is the most fun feature added in this week’s system update, but the list of patch notes runs long:
- Register a channel to receive News for specific games
- Add friends from your Nintendo 3DS and Wii U Friend Lists
- Receive notifications when your Friends go online
- Change the user icon order on the Home Menu
- Select from 6 new Splatoon 2 characters for user icon
- Change the system volume from the Quick Settings
- Lower the maximum volume for headphone or speakers connected to the audio jack
- Change display colors to Invert Colors or Grayscale
- Use the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller via wired communication by connecting the USB charging cable
- Update connected controllers
- Added a feature that suggests deletion of software data if there is insufficient space when downloading other software
