New Xbox One Controller Will Feature a 3.5mm Audio Jack

The Xbox controller has remained relatively similar throughout the launch of the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. Microsoft has always seemed to favor proprietary connections, especially when it comes to audio. For instance, in order to use an old headset on the Xbox One you have to get the somewhat expensive headset adapter. Luckily, an Xbox One controller revision is coming, and it will bring us more standard options for audio.

Yesterday, the support page for the Xbox One controller got updated with a mention of a 3.5mm connection. A diagram showed the jack to be right next to the proprietary expansion port on the bottom of the controller. This was the first time anyone has ever heard of this feature, and the only other piece of information the page gave was a release sometime in June.

Libro, an Austrian retailer, leaked even more information about the controller. They confirmed that a new controller will indeed have a 3.5mm audio connection. Unfortunately, it also appears that the audio jack will be the only technical change to the controller. There will, however, be a cosmetic change which can be seen in the header image. This new controller will be called “convert forces” and is due to release on June 8th.
