After testing it last year, developer The Coalition today announced that cross-play between Xbox One and PC is now available in Gears of War 4's multiplayer mode. As announced on the Xbox Wire, cross-play is available in the Social quick play playlist, while the Gears of War 4 Core and Competitive playlists will not feature cross-play. The Coalition said it found from the test period that people on Xbox One and PC had around the same level of skill (in terms of average kill/death ratio, score, and kills per match), but the developer wants to make sure that Ranked playlists are "as closely matched and competitive as possible," so there will be no cross-play for these.

More than 115,000 people took part in the cross-play test weekend last year and the split was very lopsided; 91 percent of players were on Xbox One, compared to 9 percent on PC. "We are incredibly excited to bring our Xbox One and Windows 10 PC communities closer together in Public Versus multiplayer through the power of Xbox Live," The Coalition said. "Thank you for your participation, feedback and passion--without our incredible fans, this decision would not have been possible."
