First Wave of Fallout 4 DLC Announced

Since the release of Fallout 4 in November of 2015, developer Bethesda Games Studios has been suspiciously quiet regarding the release of future content for the game. This concerns those who purchased the Season Pass that accompanied the game at release, as no major details have been listed as to what would entail from the Season Pass. Earlier today, Bethesda finally broke that silence on their developer blog to regale fans of the franchise with what they've been working on since the game was publicly released. Included in this first wave of DLC for Fallout 4 are two smaller add-ons - "Automatron" and "Wasteland Workshop" - as well as a third, major add-on titled Far Harbor.

The first of this trio of content additions is Automatron, which will pit the player against the Mechanist: a highly proficient robot mechanic with a grudge against the Commonwealth. The Mechanist has commanded his armor of custom and deadly robots to wreak havoc across the Commonwealth. In hunting them down, the player can scavenge the robots for parts and assemble their own customizable robot from their armor and weapons to limbs and even voices. Automatron will be released in March for the price of $9.99 USD (£7.99 GBP and $16.95 AUD).

Wasteland Workshop is the second add-on Bethesda will be releasing. It features additions to the settlement system, including new design options such as "Nixie tube lighting, letter kits, taxidermy and more." Most notably being added with this DLC is the ability to construct cages for the sole purpose of capturing the most dangerous of enemies encountered in the Wasteland. Expanding on this, players will be able to tame the creatures they capture, or set them lose within their settlements to face off against their settlers in gladiatorial combat. Wasteland Workshop is set to release in April - one month after the first DLC - at the price of $4.99 USD (£3.99 GBP and $7.95 AUD).

Though these are sizable additions in their own right, they are comparatively small when compared to Bethesda's third DLC: Far Harbor. Fallout 4 players scoured the waters of the game and didn't find much, but they weren't too far off from what would end up being a major expansion featuring the island of Far Harbor off the coast of a post-apocalyptic Maine. It begins by hearing about a case that made its way to Nick Valentine's Detective Agency regarding a search for a woman and a supposed Synth colony. This expansion claims to feature "the largest landmass for an add-on" and will come with a vast amount of high level content as the heightened levels of radiation in Far Harbor have destabilized the usual mutated creatures and made them more dangerous than ever. Far Harbor will offer new settlements, enemies, faction quests, and gear intended for high level players.

The fate of Far Harbor will be in the hands of the player as factions will also be staking their claim in the island. The player will also have to work out conflicts between Synths, Far Harbor locals, and the Children of Atom. Far Harbor is slated for release in May, at a price of $24.99 USD.

As a result of these confirmed DLC additions, as well as the confirmation that there will be more coming up in the near future, Bethesda is bumping up the price of the Season Pass as of March 1. Those who have purchased it already will not need to do anything and their purchase will still be valid and the same extends to those who purchase the Season Pass before the price is raised. The Season Pass is currently $29.99, but will be bumped up to $49.99 once the calendars flip to March.

If any of these add-ons really strike your fancy, Bethesda has a closed beta application to test out these upcoming expansions which you can apply for here.
