Cliff Bleszinski who is best known for his work on the Xbox Series Gears Of War as well as popular PC and console shooter Unreal Tournament recently announced his new company titled Boss Key Games last week and today has officially announced his next game which will be titled BlueStreak and will be published by Nexon.
At the moment not much is known about the game except that it will be a free to play Sci-Fi PC Arena Shooter, unfortunately there was no gameplay trailer to go with the announcement but Cliff explained that his studio won't be using "a fake CG trailer showing gameplay". You can learn more about BlueStreak below, as well as toon in tomorrow for his live Q/A session.
The president and CEO of Nexon, Owen Mahoney had a few things to say about Cliff's big move, "Cliff is one of the most innovative and renowned game designers of our time, and his reputation for creating genre-defining games that inspire a dedicated fan base is well-earned. Players across the world have eagerly awaited Cliff’s next move, and we’re delighted to partner with Boss Key to bring the next generation of first-person shooters to market." And as part of the publishing deal Nexon was able to acquire a minority stake in Boss Key studios.
Personally I think this is great news, growing up with Unreal Tournament and then playing Gears of War on Xbox I always loved his work and what he was able to accomplish. Unreal Tournament was a truly fun shooter that many enjoyed playing on the PC and eventually on the Xbox, arena shooters are one of a kind and personally are more fun to play than your typical CoD or BF game. As far as F2P goes I think it's a smart move as you can reach a broader audience versus going P2P and on PC F2P is a very popular model that's proven to be successful from MMO's to MOBA's to FPS games they all end up being quite successful so I have no doubt that with his brilliance and the F2P/PC environment this title is bound to be a hit for millions and should really improve the already growing PC gaming audience.
There will be a live Q/A with Cliffy B. at 5:30 EST, the source can be found here and a link will be posted on his twitter shortly before the Q/A starts.
