Alienation is a top-down action game that pits multiple players not only against a race of aliens, but against other players in the world. It was first shown at Sony's Gamescom press conference in 2014, with a release date that was never confirmed. The developers behind Alienation, Housemarque, dispelled some rumors swirling around the game's release date, which was speculated to be March 2. Housemarque took to Twitter to confirm that Alienation would instead be released on March 23, 2016.
Housemarque has described Alienation as a spiritual successor to their previous title, Dead Nation. Dead Nation featured a similar style of top-down shooter gameplay, but Alienation looks to be taking a drastic spin on the genre. Alienation will contain multiple character classes to use and progress in which will improve the utility and efficacy of skills and weapons. Through this level of customization, players will be able to shape their character to what suits them as they are playing through Alienation. Cooperative play is a major point of Alienation, where players will be able to team up to take on the alien invasion, or go rogue to turn on other players. Throughout all of this, players will find loot and items to help them stem the tide of the alien invasion.
Housemarque previously developed Super Stardust, Dead Nation, and Resogun, with Alienation being another highly anticipated release for action games. Alienation will release as a PlayStation 4 exclusive on March 23, 2016.
