With the 8th generations consoles taking over the 7th generation consoles, I though it would be a good idea to make a retrospective about the 7th generation consoles: The Xbox 360, the Wii and the PlayStation 3.

Back in 2005, the 7th generations consoles were announced and the Xbox 360 was released. It had good launch titles such as Call of duty 2 and Need for speed: Most wanted. The Xbox 360 had a great launch to say the least, selling roughly 500,000 consoles in 24-hours.

In 2006 the PlayStation 3 was released and didn't sell very well at launch. Things looked dark for the PlayStation 3 and Sony. The PlayStation 3 also had some good games at launch but no good exclusive titles, yet. The Wii was also released in 2006 and aimed the casual gamers directly with its user-friendly interface and games. The Wii was a success and outsold both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 that were both aimed toward the "hardcore" gamers.

In 2007, Microsoft announced the Xbox 360 Elite model that came with a bigger hard drive and an HDMI port. Halo 3 was also released on Xbox 360 exclusively. Sony announced that the 20GB PlayStation model would not be produced anymore and Nintendo announced the released of Wii Ware, which allowed users to download games from an online shop.

Since nothing really happened in 2008, lets skip to 2009 where Sony released the PlayStation 3 Slim, which was not backward compatible but much smaller and lighter. The console came with a 120GB hard drive.

In 2010, Sony released PlayStation Move and Microsoft released the Xbox Kinect as well as the Xbox 360 Slim

In 2011, Nintendo announced the Wii U, the first 8th Generation console to be released.

In 2012, Sony released the PlayStation 3 Super-Slim and Nintendo released the Wii U

In 2013, Microsoft released the Xbox 360 Super-Slim and the others 8th generation consoles were announced and released.

I think the 7th generations consoles were awesome consoles and had some of the best games ever made. The Wii had many awesome games such as Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, SuperSmash Bros Brawl and The legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The Xbox 360 also had awesome games like Halo3, Forza 4 and Gears of War. The PlayStation offered us amazing graphics and awesome games like Uncharted, Twisted Metal, Killzone and little big planet. This generation won't be forgotten and will hold a special place in our heart.
