Hey guys. I'm thinking about getting a nintendo wii and I was just wondering how easy it is to mod and what can you do when you mod it? I am really interested in getting games for free. And if any of you know of any good tutorials on how to mod the nintendo wii could you please give me a link?

Modding the Wii is very easy, if you have wifi there is a homebrew app that will allow you to mod your Wii by clicking a button, its called pimp my wii the latest is 3.00. Use that to hack the Wii.
Here are the things you can do with a modded Wii
1. Play backups for Wii & Gamecube using an HDD or SD card.
2. Run emulators like SNES9X, FCEUGX, VBAGX, and many more.
3. Play movies, view pictures or listen to music from HDD or SD using WiiMC.
4. Install any WiiWare or VC game with ease from you SD card using WAD Manager 1.7.
5. Run a countless number of homebrew apps which some are quite useful.
6. Because of the Wii U getting hacked in Wii mode there are still constant releases for the Wii Hacking scene.
7. You can customize the Wii Menu with different colors, icons & channels.
8. (I don't recommend doing this) You can also cheat on any GC or Wii game online or offline using the built in Ocarina cheat functions.
9. There are multiple ways of backing up the nand & or save data incase you make a mistake somewhere while softmodding.
10. Much more that google can tell you!

I might mod my little brother's Wii, is it similar to a Jtag where you can download an iso and place it on the HDD and play it from there? Like on a Jtag.

Yeah I don't have a Jtaged Xbox but i'm sure its much simpler. There are many backup loaders but the best are USB Loader GX & Wiiflow which show you the game cases with the boxart and you can view the entire case as if you owned a physical copy. After modding, you simply put them in a folder named "wbfs" on your HDD and run the backup loader of your choice and it will show all the ISOs in that folder. Play the game!

You can run the games right off a flashdrive as long as you re write the usb drive in the back(don't know about HDD's though) you can even mod the dvd drive to play back ups without a mod chip.

You can only run backups using the Wii disc drive if it was made early 2009, anything after Nintendo has replaced the disc drives and it will not read any burnt discs no matter how softmodded it is. The best way is from HDD or SD.

I know but depending on what your wii is on you won't be able to play off a HDD

So basically, I only have to install the Pimp my Wii app and then click a button? And how do I get this app on my Wii (I guess with SD card and PC)?

Ya a lot of the apps you want on your wii, you would have to move it over and install it via homebrew.

Make sure you update to 4.3 and update the shop channel before you mod it or you will half to run some software again if you want to load the shop channel.

just a head's up becouse i had to do so myself if you update the shop channel with your wii soft modded it will delete some software. it's simple tho just half to run cios software again that's it.
