so im new here(as you can see) and I am in a bit of a pickle. So recently i bought a xenon Xbox 360 off of a guy, and it is missing the dvd key for the dvd drive. Now i have found a nice tutorial on jtagging, so no help needed there. I was wondering if it would be possible to jtag the xbox, flash the dvd key to the dvd drive, and then un-jtag it. I still want to play online, but i want my drive to work (for obvious reasons). If this is possible, could someone direct me to a tutorial on flashing a dvd drive that actually explains how to do it?

edit: also if anyone knows a way to retrieve the dvd key without jtagging the box(if that is possible) please speak up

You can retrieve the key without JTAGing it depending on the console/DVD drive model. Could you tell us what it is? Yes you can do what you said though just make sure you dont take it online during any part of the processes until its done.

as far I can tell, the drive is a hitachi revision 47, and the board is a xenon, unsure of the revision

If the console is jtaggable yes you could technically jtag it to get they dvd key then revert. If its jtaggable I would just jtag it and get another console that is xbl safe.
It is jtaggable, the dashboard is the last jtaggable version(7371 or 7173, I forget). But I don't have the money to buy another console just so I could play online. But from what I've gathered all I need to do to fix this one is dump the nand to retrieve the dvd key(I'm assuming this does nothing to the xbox, since it is repeatable), then proceed to use jungleflasher to flash the key and stock firmware to the dvd drive. Would that work?

The dvd drive you have, is it the original one that came with the xbox?

I don't want to thread hi-jack OP, but I don't think that my question warrants another thread. I am in the same kind of pickle, just slightly different... I was trying to Flash my DG-16D2S - A0A1. I think I broke it. I never got my DVD Key. What steps do I need to take in order to fix the Xbox. I think I need to do these: (correct me if I'm wrong)

Since I never got the DVD key, I need to RGH the Xbox (JTAG isn't possible due to Dashboard version),
have XELL show the DVD Key,
buy a new DVD Drive (Same Model),
flash new drive with DVD Key,
finish by installing Freestyle Dash.

I have never JTAG'ed or RGH'ed, but I have read and researched a TON on the matter over the years.

Are these the steps I need to take in order to fix the Xbox?

If you completely bricked the DVD drive then yes.

Yea I thought he was trying to flash his drive not recover a lost key
both actually, the original that came with the xbox is broken, and also missing the dvd key. so i want to flash the new one with the dvd key so i can use it with the xbox. only thing is i need to retrieve the key from the xbox first, and thats why i was talking about jtagging it. all that needs to be done is retrieve the key from the xbox, and flashing the new drive with said key.

Ok so if you lost the key and want to use a new drive then yes you must JTAG it.

now that thats for sure, back to my original question. would it be possible to flash the stock firmware in order to play online without being banned? and if so would this erase the flashed dvd key?

Yes you can do that. Once you have the key you just inject it into the stock firmware and then flash that to the drive. Then just remove the JTAG hack and flash back to a stock NAND.
