This is for those still stuck in the mindset Mac's can't get viruses. This is a list of known malware for the Mac OS X. They don't get infected very often nor are there many infections compared to Windows, but they still are very much there.

Wow, that's a lot. But still, Macs do have A LOT less viruses than a PC... and like others say, with every new update, the older viruses can't infect the Mac anymore.

OT: For everyone saying MAC... it's Mac.

When people ask me about which computer doesn't get viruses, I say none. Their like "what?" I say "yeah Macs can get viruses but its not as easy as PC's."

Noobs.

All viruses for OS X are blocked with every update therefore none will work for 10.7
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Wanna bet?

Give me full access to your computer for 10 seconds and I'll completely f*** it up.
I say "yeah Macs can get viruses but its not as easy as PC's."
Very true, but the only reason for this is that you can develop in a simple language like C# or VB.NET for PC.

In something like Objective C or C++, its just as easy to develop malicious software for Windows, Linux, or Macintosh. That being said, at low level, Unix-based machines are usually more secure than machines running on Windows, but that's like saying "My 1950s FIAT is more reliable than your 1960s Land Rover". There are just so many exploits yet to be discovered, that there really isn't such thing as a "Secure Operating System".

For that matter, there is no such things as a "PC" when referencing Windows. A "PC" is any Personal Computer, running on Windows, Linux, Solaris, Unix, Android X86, Chrome OS, etc.

It doesn't matter how many viruses there are. If you get one, you are compromised, and they are spreading just as fast, no matter the OS you're running on.

Honestly, the majority of iUsers are complete and udder idiots. The market for Macintosh computers looks exactly like this:

People who like shiny things
People who like simple things
???
???
???
People who like Unix-Based systems

There is an incredibly huge gap in Macintosh's user base. From the "I'm impenetrable" people, skipping over the common user, technically advanced, and enthusiast, straight to the Zoz and Johnny Longs of the world. And at that level, most still prefer building their own Linux OSs.

Windows users have more people to target with a virus. You don't wanna run a RAT or whatever. with 3 people that have a Mac, vs 20 people with a PC (hardly even guessing).

has been a Mac user since 2002, never has had a virus.
Windows user since 95. Several hundred viruses, none of them compromised me, several were so poorly written I was able to decompile and wreak havoc (Thanks to [member=Calamity], for the methodology behind 2 of those).

Linux user since 2008, never had a virus. Have I been exposed to one? No. Never.

This just re-enforces my claim (and the claim of every other educated user in this thread) that the reasons Windows machines are "More virus prone" are because of the much larger userbase and the greater simplicity behind programming on the platform.

Ahh but slowly changing
You guys can keep on saying oh windows are better because of this. Macs are better because of this. Been a windows user since '32 and have never had a virus. How do we know your not lying?
The point is that it comes down to taste. I Have been a mac user for 8 of my 16 years on earth. My first macbook, I dropped so many times, everything was slowly falling off, and still lasted me 7 years until i bought a new one. I never need to buy any type of antivirus or anything in that case. Just keeps on going.
People these days are looking for something that is far more secure, and something you dont have to worry about crashing. etc. And thats why people are turning to macs.
I have had to work on numerous computers(all pc) bcuz they have downloaded a virus or blue screen of death or stuff like that, out of all that i have had to work on one mac, bcuz it kept on using the same i.p. as another computer.
I watched my parents spend over 1900 dollars on a brand new computer, then anitvirus, all the programs(legitly), and then had to go take it in for repair for 150 dollars,(something i couldn't fix). I told them they have spent more money then they needed, and should just get a mac, and guess who is a proud new owner, or an iMac, and macbook pro.
The point is you guys are going to keep on fighting, and nobody's mind is going to be changed, because there mind is set on what they want to believe.

"a mac is a computer therefor its capable of running harmful software. i doubt there will be a pc that totally blocks virus's"

It has not before been able to run the same type of harmful software until this point.. All other infections for the mac have been destructive for the most part, but this new mac defender is the same as about 90% of the viruses a windows pc would get.
