I picked up a 1tb external HDD for my JTAG (Coming soon) today from Best Buy. It has "Password protection with 256-bit hardware encryption" for security, I'm not sure if it is optional security software that I choose to install or not. I don't want to open it up and not be able to return it before I know if this stuff is going to interfere with its ability to interface with the xbox.

It is a "Western Digital: My Book Essential"
Model #: WDBAAF0010HBK-NESN

Any help is appreciated.

well it just so happens I just unboxed one this evening and I have a jtag 360 will post my results shortly...

omfg...what an ordeal...first of all for any jtaggers out there I am really dissappointed that to my knowledge there isnt an external hd compatibility list for this type of thing...there is no way for a consumer ro gauge well will this work am I better off getting this etc...with that said after much pain and even a scary time where I thought I bricked the drive it works...I only get 939 gb free not the 1tb advertised but I would say that is normal bs...ok lets detail my oddyssey to get this to work...I had been reading up on the topic for weeks and even asked people for help posted a thread at xbox scene as well and honestly I found very little info...best stuff I found was here: http://www.xboxhacker.org/index.php?topic=13125.0 I opened swiss army knife but on my windows xp pc I had no luck formatting it...tried the fat 32 formatter mentioned in that thread and this hd seemed to die...I was very nervous space on drive read 0 after I used that app...When I tried to manipulate it in windows by format it would give me blue screen of death (fun times right) nways I was determined...I keep a linux box available to me at all times for this sorta thing...when I booted ubuntu 9.10 it saw my hd (yay) and allowed me to format to fat 32...took it to my 360 and I got a black screen on boot (wonderful I am thing) took it back to windows wanted to restore the WD NTFS format no luck...It hung on Windows quick format too...then it halved my capicity...(oh the joy) nways long story short took it back to ubuntu one more time and formatted to fat 32 again...this time my 360 recognized and and I just booted supreme commander 2 on it (smallest game I know of I have backup of handy...problem is I prefer to use win xp and I dont think I can use this hd on win xp now not sue why...but I can ftp to it (yay) hopefully this helps someone....

Most all of external drives are compatible as long as you format it correctly with fat32 and you can't format using windows, you have to use swissknife.

I returned this piece'o's*** hard drive, and bought an internal Samson F3. Did the 3.5 internal HDD tutorial on xboxscene and it works perfect. And no BS slow USB speeds. Full sata.

I have a program that I used (I think it run from cmd) that converted my 250gb external to fat32 in a couple seconds. If anyone wants it, I still have it.
