Zune HD vs iPod touch 3G, which one will you buy?

Microsoft wants its Zune HD to go head to head with the iPod Touch. Is that really possible? Let’s take a look at each specification.

The display
Zune HD: Beautiful, large (3.3 inch diagonal), 272*480 touch screen.
IPhone: beautiful, large (3.5 inch diagonal), 320*480 multi-touch, the screen is a little bigger then Zune HD.

The Internet Browsing and Connectivity
The Zune HD is coming with its Internet Browser. At this point, Apple's Safari Mobile is already well known for speedy page rendering and hands-on test with the Zune HD have yet to prove the new player's capabilities.

The multimedia and FM radio
Zune HD is aming to design a great music player to override iPod touch. So, the latest Zune HD is going support playing HD videos and also output HD videos. Moreover, with a dock (sold separately), we can easily connect Zune HD with HDTV and then watch HD videos on it. On the other side, iPod touch did nothing on HD videos. Even it also let customers receive FM radio, Zune HD has done its best to built-in HD radio tuner.

However both Zune HD and iPod touch can only play limited videos and audios. Zune HD plays MPEG-4, WMV, H.264 videos and MP3, WMA audio files. While iPod Touch plays MPEG-4, H.264 video files and AAC, WMV, MP3 audio files. What if you have large music or video collections you want to carry around with you on your player? I have got third party software to do this admire job: use iSkysoft DVD Ripper to convert DVD collections and iSkysoft Video Converter to convert video or music collections for both Zune HD and iPod touch.

The game and application
Zune Marketplace is the online store for Zune HD where we can buy, rent music, video and podcasts. Zune Marketplace uses a subscription model for music downloads while Apple sells songs individually.

Installing new applications on the iPod is a complete joy. It’s ultra simple and quick – an absolutely superb experience than virtually nobody has matched today. It’s still unknown whether Zune HD will enlarge its applications, but one thing we can expect is that Microsoft is not going to expand its applications as large as Apple does, at least on Zune HD.

Games for iPod touch are made to take advantage of its built-in technologies such as the accelerometer, Multi-Touch, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The result is truly immersive gameplay — whether you’re playing alone or with others in multiplayer mode. And with an App Store that offers thousands of games ready to download and play, the fun of iPod touch never ends.

The price
The price for 16G Zune HD is $219.99, 32GB Zune HD sells for $289.99. In contrast, iPod touch 16GB sells for $299 and 32GB for $399. The apparent price difference seems to put the advantage over the new Zune.

Conclusion
So there you have it. Both products are released almost at the same time and both are great music players while iPod still supports playing games. At this coming fall, we have so many choices, so which one will you buy? Zune HD vs iPod touch 3G.

Its a tossup. Most people already have iPhones making the iTouch for the most part unnecessary so when they go out to shop for an mp3 player, they're going to choose the lower priced product with similar features.

Zune HD. I'm sure Microsoft will make it great, considering it's probably being launched to combat the Touch. It's also cheaper.

i love microsoft, and have upgraded the zune every time a new one came out, but after i got my iphone.. it just wins. they both compare great untill you compare apps. zune has a few games, as ipod/iphone has millions of games and apps. untill microsoft has this feature, and maybe a camera too, i say iphone wins, so probably the itouch too

But look at this way, more programs are compatible with the ipod. Like car stereo's ( not the stock stereos), if you have a zune plugged into it you can't hit the skip button on the stereo. You have to do it from the zune. If you had an ipod the name of the song shows up and you can hit the skip button. Also problems with the Itouch. It wont show up on the xbox 360 it only charges. Zune takes multiple times to get the xbox to read it but it still works, Itouch just wont read.

There going to be apps for the Zune HD. Trust me. There wouldn't of put a Nvidia processor in there for nothing. The question is when will they release developer tools for these apps to start coming in?

im all for zune because i like microsoft alot more than apple and its brands /mac/ipod i dont really like the user interface of there stuff but to me the zune hd is just uglier than **** so i will stick with the ipod on this one. if it were the last model of either i would go with the 80gb touch zune

I dont think microsoft could ever compare to the ipod touch. I have both a touch and a iphone. There just no way microsoft could top the touch. When zune gets millons of free apps then I might consider it. SO IM NOT GOING TO BE WASTING MY MONEY on the zune HD. Sorry im not looking for best picture quality In a 3.5 inch device

I am an owner of a zune 120gb. Love it.

two years, i went through 12 IPODS. **** it never again.
I have never heard of somebody with an ipod for more than 6-10 months. I've had my zune for 15 months and I haven't had 1 glitch at all.
zune software is 100x better
sound quality is better on the zune
i can link my zune to my xbl account, **** yeah. useless but so worth it!

Haha, same here. I have an 80 gig. The cool thing is, is that MS points carry over to the software so you can use it to buy music.

well i have a 4g zune and i had a itouch before and i gotta say i had alot of fun with the itouch and the zune is crap gotta have zune media player which takes for ever to install. and is very laggy ill have to say the itouch
