This one hurts folks. In fact, a swift kick to the giggleberries. Yet again, it’s not that fantastic either. Apparently that problem with our beloved 360’s causing three little red lights to flash ever so menacingly at us is not what we expected. It isn’t because our boxes are akin to an easy bake oven and melted key components inside. Nor has the problem to do with a crappy game or non-elevated power supply.
The RRoD is simply due to faulty design and manufacturing. In trying to save themselves and the end user money, Microsoft designed the GPU in house and then sent it to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. They bypassed an ASIC third party vendor only to be slapped with more than $1 billion in warranty support. However, as we know and the fanboys across the street have yet to realize is that the problem is now pretty much resolved.
ATI are supposedly the one’s to reengineer and quality assure the chip. Ergo back to gaming as usual.
