CONFIRMED: Final Fantasy XI is a game for crazy people

Final Fantasy XI was not a very popular MMO, but it has its share of avid players and the community is an active one... More and more it gets hard to know why.

First, Sage Sundi, the Global Online Producer and Lead Game Master for Final Fantasy XI, said it took about 18 hours to beat one of the game's bosses. The name of this boss is Absolute Virtue (no relation to the vodka or any real virtue) and there was a clan of players that decided they were going to beat him/her/it... They did.

So, a few weeks ago, Square Enix released a new content pack that added new bosses to FF XI, the toughest one is called Pandemonium Warden (just to keep in line with the random-words-thrown-in-together-to-sound-tough names).

Then, that same clan mentioned above, called Beyond the Limitation, set itself on fire a mission: to defeat Pandemonium Warden. Eighteen hours later they had to quit because some of the players were geting seriously sick (clearly showing that they were not beyond THAT limitation). One of the members of the clan later wrote that "People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how video games ruin people’s lives." Yes, because you were clearly not going to become one just for playing a game for 18 or more hours at a time and only stopping when someone is puking their guts off. Apparently the line had to be crossed and it wasn't way back, before the first 18 hour battle.

If you feel confused as to why this is in an Xbox 360 website, I may have to remind you (or more especifically: awaken repressed memories) that Final Fantasy XI is available for the 360. Yes, you could be playing this right now. You too could be puking over yourself while playing for way too many hours straight to NOT get any achievements (because there are not achievements for going through the new content).

What's fun about playing a boss for 18 hours?

That's honestly pathetic.

Normally I'll play for 10 hours in TOTAL during the day, play for 2 hours, go outside and ride my bike/skateboard, play for an hour go back outside and see if my friends are home, ect.

That's how it could be ok to play for a total of 18 hours, even that is kind of still nerdy though. Plus a lot of the time for me I'm working on school work and crap too.

Clearly written by someone who has never played an hour of FFXI.

There are tons of EndGame clans in this game that have nothing else better to do but make names for themselves by killing the hardest mobs in the game such as AV and Pandemonium Warden, one located in one hard area to get to, and another in a special instance. 18 hours isn't hard to believe at all honestly, especially when you start rotating players in your group as other people get on.

The linkshell mentioned in this story clearly had the wrong strategy for this NM.

And if you were an avid FFXI player you'd want the gear this HNM dropped as well.

i dont get it, just about all MMO's are like that if you playing it on the computer or the 360 your probably going to end up playing 18 hours straight one day. MMOs they is crazy!!!!!
