Ok, everything went fine till I was at the option 1) Build a new xbox HD from scratch. When I choose 1 and hit enter, it gives me this error: Invalid Choice and prompts for reselection.

ok nvm that above^^ I failed to notice that it told me the HD is still locked. I followed the instructions step by step. Had the error 12. Don't know why it is still locked :/

Sounds like the problem i was having. Try swapping the IDE cable right before you pick option 1. Double check some of the earlier posts from me and look for forrest's response.

Re: Reformatting your Xbox HDD to factory default

Hmm I didnt notice this in the tut but I followed it precisely and it did not work, giving me no choice but to buy an eeprom reader, and you know why?
1. Well first of all you need to backup your EEPROM.BIN
(A modded xbox is required to get it) and store it in the eeprom folder when compiling the iso and making the disc. Other wise if you dont, your hard drive is already formatted and you cant view it because you cant "Lock" your HDD.
2. Secondly you have to LOCK your harddrive when your done making it, other wise you get the error screen saying "your xbox needs service". Also if you get a Hard drive frozen, you have to set it to "NOT INSTALLED" or turn it off in your bios. This should make this tut work now since well i had a expensive doorstop for awhile.

Good luck

Um wow, you didnt even read the tutorial. First of all, the original HDD is already programmed with the eeprom so you dont need it. And second, you dont need to relock it when you hotswap. Read first.

Re: Reformatting your Xbox HDD to factory default

Im getting error 21 when i reboot the xbox...

I follow your tutorial, however the point where it rebuilds e drive doesnt happen, it does c, but doesnt do e, im presuming this is bacuse e has nothing in it, however on your screen shots it seems to rebuild e. The ony way i can get it to do e is if i put 2 blank dirs on the cd called TDATA and UDATA.

however it makes no difference i still get error 21

ive done it numerous times, all seem to complete ok, but still error 21

does it make any difference which dash files you are tilling me to download? there were quite a few different versions, do all versions work on any console?

any help here would be grate as otherwise i have a dead xbox

Re: Reformatting your Xbox HDD to factory default

ok after i type in xboxhd i get

shotdown, connect a drive and reboot? not sure what to do

i tried with a diff cpu and same thing. The 2nd cpu is newer and HD doesnt have ide to it. Just two skinnier wires.

Also, should xbox HD be on slave, cs, or master?

With my second computer I tried unplugging the HD with the 2 small wires and plugging xbox HD into the 2nd plug on the ide cable. Than i tried with xbox HD on master, slave, and cs and got same error every time

To get the kernel version? Yeah, I wish I knew another way to get that without having to make 2 cd's.

Re: Reformatting your Xbox HDD to factory default

Another method that always works for me when try to unlock my drive.

1. Unplug the ribbon cable(IDE cable) from the DVD/Disk drive of the xbox.
2. Turn xbox on

- on your screen you should have error code 12

3. Put restore disk into computer disk drive
4. Power down computer
5. Unhook ribbon cable(IDE cable) from hd of your pc
6. Start up computer, make sure you boot to your cd, not windows
7. When screen loads, unplug ribbon(IDE) cable from xbox hd
8. Take ribbon(IDE) cable from pc hd, plug it into your xbox hd
9. Wait 1 minute(dont have to but lets loading time for your pc to reconized the xbox)
10. now follow the screen instructions on the pc monitor.
