Thank you, you just made my day - I did not realise you had to wait for it to scroll down, It is the updated version. I just need an action replay unit not as my memory cards are not picked up by the xbox

what do you do with the dashboard number?

You could read the post...the post tells you that you need to have the latest dashboard kernel...so just see if your dashboard matches what it is suppose to.

Problem. Im try to update my dash and it's freezing halfway through the update process. i can still play games and i haven't softmodded yet. any ideas?

ps-this is a used xbox i got from ebay and it loads to the main dash slow too.

HI, my shows no Dashboard number, I got when the xbox (Christmas of 2001) first came out. I never had Xbox life. I accidentally press something and the xbox life bar on the dashboard show up, so what ever. Do you know anyways to update this Antique. I do not own Halo 2, but do have Marvel Ultimate Alliance which come out after Halo 2. Do you knowhow to update it?

Any game that came out after h2 that can be played or connected to XBL can be inserted and update the dashboard. The instructions are in this first post.

Ok i have one problem here...

I am trying to softmod my aunty's xbox and unfortunatly she has an old dashboard version of 5696 or something.
She does not have xbox and never did, so i cannot connect to xbox live to update the dashboard.
Is there anyway to update the dashboard version without actually "connecting" to xbox live.

I am able to get any game that is needed, even the halo 2 map pack, So if anyone knows how i can do it, that would be great.

My Xbox says that I have version # 4034.01. It won't let me copy from my mem card to to HDD. I have Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Live on order, will this still update my dash to the current version so that I can soft mod using SID 4.0? I know that this probably sounds like a stupid question, but I have never done this before.

i had problems with kids getting error 21 and find out they formated there c drive but not completly just all files except xboxdash.xbe, xboxbook.xtf and xbox.xtf, simply cause there being used by the softmod. personaly i would say if this happends hope you got a backup copy of the eeprom ither on the xbox hd or on the pc, or else your screwed

No you dont, as long as you have a game which was released after halo2, just put the game in (without the ethernet cable in the xbox) and then select xbox live, and it should take you to the troubleshooting microsoft dashboard, which will update your xbox to the latest version.
