So will a back up copy work on a dvd - r on the phillips drive? Yes my box is soft modded i tried it out with the godfather it loaded then the game stopped mid way. And I guess dvd+R's dont work. The disk i used was a single layer dvd-r memorex, would dual layer make a difference?

Ok, so I have a Thomson xbox drive, it's very picky about what dvd r/rw/+r/-r it reads. I am trying to create a hot-swappable mod disk for halo 2 on xbox live. My friend gave me an Imation DVD-RW mod disk that works really great - but... all the mod disks i make (on dvd+r/rw) will only read one map, then it will either stop spinning or just won't read anything else....... PLEASE HELP ME - IM A MODDER IN DISTRESS :[]

DVD-R or DVD+R

USE A DVD+or-R and when u burn the modded disk, "BURN TO END OF MEDIA" as said on "CLONE CD" the second layer is not needed besaue it only has 80% of the campaign maps and videos on it kk

I have been searching for months.
Is there a definite "best" replacement drive, or is this just general preference?
What I am looking for is a drive that will read regular xbox and dvd disks with the highest speed and accuracy, if that makes any sense. My main problem has been "skipping" and would just rather replace than clean since I will be in there upgrading the HDD anyway.
