If you ever want to use a bigger HDD you will need your eeprom. I posted how to get it in this thread somewhere. Just look for it. Then when you build your new HDD it will work correctly. But the HDD you try to upgrade it to has to be able to lock.

Yes, looking at it now. Thank you

Why not just teach them to rebuild their HDD with it. That way it will work. If you need to talk to me about it IM me. I have like four messengers.

a lil help...

So, I decided to try this today.

I have the PC, the Linux disc and all the connections setup ready to go.

I power up the Xbox, let it get to the dash and then power up the PC. MY PC HDD is disconnected, just the DVD and floppy are connected. I have to press F1 to continue booting to the CD, then the HDM screen apprears. I press 1 and enter, let it do its thing and I end up with ... root [at]Xbox-HDM:/1

I then type xboxhd, it does something and ends up with this error...No Disk Drive Found on /dev/hda (Primary Master)!

I have tried 3 methods to ensure the HDD is unlocked (music/pause, sit at the dash, and even pulled with the LED changed to red). Is that even my problem?

Any ideas?

Also, how long do I actually have to make the swap? Meaning once I unplug the IDE cable?

Thanks in advance

Yeah some people have taht problem. That means its unlocked but it wants to be gay. I would keep your computer HDD on there till it finds it then make the swap. But make sure you dont format your comps HDD.

That means its unlocked but it wants to be gay LMAO!!!

Does that indicate a Xbox problem or a PC problem? I can always try another PC.

So, let me ask another semi-related question. This is a v1.0, I also have a v1.6 thats throwing a code 12. ( i know dvd drive). I can swap dvd drives and try with that unit. Would there be any advantage / dis-advantage to going with the v1.6 over the v1.0???

Try a different Comp then. It did that to me before but I had to trick it with another HDD.
And Error 12 is when the IDE cable cant connect to the Dvd drive. Make sure its plugged in all the way first.

I got it! well, at least further than I was.

Booting the PC with the HDD attached did it.

In regards to the v1.6 with the code 12, I have reconnected everything, and even swapped IDE cables...that phillips drive is toast. I put the Thomson from my v1.0 in there and it worked.

So, are there any benefits to either the v1.0 or v1.6? I know Im getting off subject...

Dammit.

I got to part 2(?) of the Ndure procedure and it started to install shadow c, but then errored out. Not enough disk space.
This is the original hdd.

Well, I lost power while figuring out what to do about the out of space error. Not sure if I'm hosed or not. When the power came back, I tried to boot and I got nothing, just a black screen.

So, enter the 2nd Xbox (they were free so wth). Make sure I cleared out all the old save games first this time. The process actually worked this time, until...I powered off and rebooted. Error 21!!!

Maybe Im just not supposed to have an Xbox? Big Brother (Sony) is watching me.

I found a thread to fix error 21, going to give that a shot.

If anyone has any advice on either issue, please hollar. And thanks for the help already given!

See LD50 im not the only one. You now have to rebuild your HDD it did that with me too. When it was at the music? What you need to do is in the Iso. Take the ndure folder open it up and move those c and e folders to the main iso. Then after the beginning screen press one. Then when it loads type xboxhd then 1 to rebuild. There you go.

I was just going to try your 16 procedure (on both HDD's), which would be better?

Forrest, mind if I PM if I run into any problems?

I used the error 16 repair method to fix my error 21!!! Thanks Forrest!!!

I will work on the other xbox hdd tomorrow.

Now, I assume to do the softmod I need to go through all the steps again?

It keeps mashing all my posts together. Makes it look like all I do is sit here and troll :-P

Both HDD's are working, I think? No more error 21 or blank screens.
But, I do have the 100 Soundtrack issue...not sure what that is though.

I want to try this again, it's too tempting when I have access to $2 games.

How do I return the HDD's to a factory state before trying again?

And what is this 100 soundtrack thing?

If you have MSN im on alot. But if not PM me. When you rebuild the HDD dont follow the instructions he gave. Follow the ones I gave. But you might want to make a backup of your songs. My method gets rid of all your stuff. Sry.

Forrest,

There is nothing on the HDDs that I need (music, saves, etc..).
Do I need my eeprom.bin before I rebuild the hdd? (I'm building a reader as we speak)

Bottom line, I dont know what happened with the out of space error, can't restore the backup either. So, I just want to start all fresh.

If its the original HDD for the xbox then you do not need it. And if you want to rebuild it go ahead. I did and it works. But it doesnt like to use m$dash but it has the online one.
