I'm not claiming that this is better at all, there are other methods that don't need a hotswap that are safer but If you can't find a action replay or your copy of 007 is scratched up or like me you're just that cheap,
I had never opened a xbox, bungie released the newest maps, I voided the warranty used xplorer360 to access my HDD within 4 hours, found I couldn't add maps that way, I read for hours all slightly different all needing some game/dongle to work I found this tut about hour 18 I read and downloaded everything in 1/2 hour set the disc in 1/2 hour and setup for the hotswap in a few minutes (being well practiced with xplorer360)
25 minutes later done (the new maps took longer)
I took the tut and colour condensed it to split the instructions from the background stuff because info overload is high for newbs then cleared up somethings to make it even friendlier and I added my own findings and I help with what I can

Your opinion is noted, as Clint Eastwood says

"opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got One"

And you guys can backup your eeprom with this too. Even though it doesnt let you when you install. OPen file explorer and go to E:/ntds/default.xbe Then when it loads that funky menu, go to backup/restore, then backup eeprom. Your Eeprom will be in the E:/apps/evox folder.^_^

When you say, install the updated script. It doesnt let me download it, it just comes up with a whole page of words and stuff. I did right click and i can only save link, not the actual file. i tried firefox and IE, but i cant get it still.
If someone could send me it directly or tell me how that would be great
Thanks.

to marky89

Marky89 "saving link as" is correct you may have missed this bit

"When downloading the script (installing updated backup script) if your PC keeps making it a IE or firefox file like mine did just save it then
start>control panel>folder options>view (tab) then untick the button that says "hide extensions of known file types" and then apply, this will put all file extensions after the file name (so it would be "ndure.htm") just click the file name to rename it then delete the .htm bit, you computer will grumble asking you are you sure, after which you can undo the folder options so everything looks normal again"

this should do it for you let me know if it works out for you and please rate this thread

If this is still offers problems send me you're email in a PM and I'll send it as an attachment to you

Almost ready to try this...

Looks like a fairly easy process. I have some PC skills, but I'm totally new to the Xbox scene (been on a modded PS2 for 5 years though).

My buddy just gave me his failing Xbox (v1.0) with a Thomson drive, that will soon be replaced with a Samsung. Anyway, my end goal is to be able to load games onto the HDD and play from there. Sounds like the softmod will be the easiest and cheapest way to go. The unit was free, so why spend lots of $$$ on it?

Anyway, I am going to try this softmod tut, maybe tomorrow, but I have a question first.
I eventually want to get a bigger HDD in there, would it be easier to do it all at once, or does the Xbox need to be modded first before I c
