Ok the video lead has to be in the just the xbox, the end you plug in to a tv or whatever, can be neglected (this is because no video lead in xbox is seen as a error thus no unlocking) But as you said you have it plugged we can forget that,
I have doubts that it has anything to do with your pc as almost all recent pc's are RAID compliant I'm going to research this further because its bothering me and I want to help

As for unlocking the hard drive some methods work for some, others don't here are the most popular methods
1. Let the Xbox sit at the dash for a little while and then hotswap
2. Play a music track off of a soundtrack, pause it, then hotswap
3. Boot a game and start playing it, then hotswap
4. Unplug the DVD drive’s power cable so you get an error 12 and hotswap
5. Hotswap right after you see the MS splash logo
6. If not connected to a TV, unhook the DVD drive’s power cable and hotswap right when you get the red light.

Sometimes it is the pc at fault, Custom built AMDs normally present no problems
There can be bios issues also, here are some work arounds since you're PC literate here goes
-Disable Auto Detection for the Primary Master HD (also explained as setting IDE0/HDA to “NONE”)
-Disable S.M.A.R.T. monitoring
-Unplug all USB devices (use a PS/2 connector for your keyboard)
-Make sure all networking cards have a connection (xboxhdm hangs on unplugged network cables)

OK I got the xbrowser to work, don't ask I just switched my computers and used my spare and it went straight through. I backed up my C: drive and started to install Ndure and then I got a input/output error and it was like that for a couple of mintues and then it finished in about 10 minutes I thought it might just be what happens, but now when I turn my xbox on it goes to the Flobber thing and then goes throught the whole thing and then it goes to a black screen and stays there. I'm not sure if its my cd bad or what, I was wondering if you could help because you've been really great. Thank you.

I just was messing with my Xbox, I haven't tried to reinstall it yet but I put a game in and it goes straight to the game and I guess I just can't go into the m$ dashboard but can still play games. So atleast I didn't mess it up to bad. But I would like to have it fixed.

You go in to xbrowser and then to /ndure then *ndure and it starts installing it gets to step 2 of 3 then says "cp:read error input/output error" is that how your problem went?

If so it sounds like the updated Ndure script you download is still in its html format check if if the file has an association (does it have a IE or firefox or whatever icon or does it display a BIN style file or right click, properties what kind of file does windows think it is? ) thats if if you still have it on your HDD and hopefully all you have to do is reburn the disc and try again

If it has not use xbhdm to restore your C drive back up (back ups are priceless)

I don't see whats hard about it DrXthirst, there's no thinking or calculating involved it's just following instuctions
I'm 25 a dinosaur by modding standards I'd never opened a xbox up 3 hours later (and it would of been 2 if I'd of know about the case bolt under the sticker) I was softmodded

Ok I redid the file and it no longer gives me the error. I had a problem getting the computer to register the hdd, and then I checked to see if it can read any hdd and I found out that the cable couldn't read any hdd (the computer is my old one and just sits around doing nothing all day, I pulled the hard drive for my uncle a couple of months ago) and I realized I must have fried the eide cable last time I tried the program and had to use a spare one and it took a couple reboots of the computer to get it to work right, I realized if you do pull the cable out from the Xbox Dvd drive and get the 12 error then you get the best shot at it, and I reinstall the Ndure and it took awhile and said that the M$ Dashboard isn't up to date or something like that and it said I might not be able to dual boot to the M$ Dashboard and after it finished installing, I checked to see if the dashboard would work and sure enough, I found out it does work, I have a dual boot between M$ Dashboard and Unleash X. I thank you so much for all your help. If there is anything you need help with, like computers or anything I know a great bit. But I'm def giving you thanks for all the help.

Hey it's me again. I was just wondering since I have the UnleashX Dashboard, can hot swap (like the original M$ Dashboard, pull the hdd eide cable out sitting at the Unleashx dashboard and connecting it to a computer and run the xboxhdm cd) and when I boot the cd (the burnt copy of xboxhdm which I used for soft modding my xbox the first time, and press 1 (where you get to the place where you type in xbrowser) and clone the modded hdd to a 80gb hdd, I know that I have to repartition the hdd and make the F: drive. So do you have any help, because I know that your really smart with Xbox modding. If not do you know any where for me to go and get help. I want to do this to put more things on the drive and be able to put my games (legal ones I own) on the drive because they read fast and I don't have to carry them around when I go other places, I know the cd's aren't the big and stuff but I also have the PSX emulator and I want to put my PS1 games on the drive to, I don't own the many, but you must have them on the drive. I thank you for any help, because I have no idea where the eeprom is and so I can't use the unlock utility to unlock my hdd. Thank you.

Can you use xbhdm to make a bigger drive work on your xbox, (well it is called xbox harddrive maker )
It's not what I know really I was going to upgrade my HDD I found one out of a old pc then I found out it was a 4GB (a bloody paper weight) so I didn't bother research it

As for the thanks button it doesn't appear untill you make 5 posts, but could you do me a favor could you remove your thanks from the post above and give thanks on the original post of the tutorial just so people know it has been used and it works

Xboxhdm For Dummies - Scenyx Entertainment Community

If you have Xbox LIVE, you CANNOT just upgrade the hard drive. You will be permanently banned from Xbox LIVE if you do that. The reason being is Micro$oft matches/pairs your Xbox's EEPROM to your Hard Drive's Serial Number. Your EEPROM is your Xbox's unique ID, your "fingerprint" persay. It contains all the information like your serial number, mac address, region information, video settings, and hard drive settings. Now, if your Xbox has ever been on Xbox LIVE, your EEPROM has been married to the hard drive. If the marriage is broken (EEPROM changes or hard drive is replaced), then the Xbox gets banned from Xbox LIVE. You can read more about the marriage theory Here.

The only way to upgrade your hard drive and still be able to go on Xbox LIVE is if you buy a new EEPROM that has never been on Xbox LIVE. After upgrading your EEPROM, you will be able to logon to LIVE with a new hard drive because the Xbox appears to have never been on Live, and the hard drive has never been on Live. In MS's eyes, you are a brand new Xbox connecting to Live for the first time.

You can buy a new EEPROM in the B/S/T forums.

QUICK TUTORIAL FOR UPGRADING HARD-DRIVE AFTER ALREADY SOFTMODDING STOCK DRIVE VIA NDURE

1) Get xboxhdm and extract it.

2) Use ConfigMagic to extract your eeprom. FTP this to your pc, rename it to eeprom.bin, and put it into the /eeprom folder of xboxhdm.

3) Go into File Manager on your xbox, navigate to e:/ndts and run the default.xbe in there. This will load an altered version of unleashx with full access to C and E.

4) FTP your C and E drives onto your pc and put them in the respective folders in xboxhdm.

5) Run make-iso-win in xboxhdm and burn the iso with alcohol 120% or any other alternative image burning software.

6) Place the xboxhdm CD in your cd drive and then shutdown your PC. Disconnect your hard-drive. Connect your new hard-drive to the primary master and then boot up your computer.

7) When xboxhdm loads up choose option 1, then when it's loaded type xboxhd. Choose option 1 again to prepare xbox hard-drive from scratch. Answer Yes to all the questions and when it is finished hit reboot.

8) Now when xboxhdm comes up choose option 3, and then once this is loaded type 'lockhd -a'. This will find your eeprom.bin and lock the hard-drive.

9) Your new hard-drive is now ready to put into your xbox and will be an exact mirror of your existing xbox drive but obviously with a lot more free space.


Q: Xboxhdm is telling me my drive is frozen, what can I do?
A: This seems to be a BIOS issue and happens more frequently on store-bought Intel-based computers. If your drive is showing up as frozen, do this. When you’re booting up your PC, hit the Pause Break button on your keyboard. Now - boot up your Xbox, let the drive unlock, and do the hotswap. Hit the Pause Break key again and it should work fine.

Q: How can I uninstall the softmod?
A: Since you backed up your C drive before installing the softmod, you can "reload" the backup and go back to a retail state. To do this, launch Ndure Toolset and choose Restore From HD Backup.

Well thank you again for a guide, I kind of did a little bit of this other one and I finally got my eeprom and it's a funny story. I tryied to put the whole hdd on a cd-rw and I took something off and when it all couldn't fit I started pulling things off that I didn't need for it to boot. I took off my music, my upload games, and all my apps I put on. I got it down to 800 megs and then I was like, all I don't need back ups for it and took that off to. I then burnt the cd with the eeprom named EEPROM.bin and I did the build the hdd from scatch and when I got it down to locking the drive, it couldn't find the eeprom file and I realized that I had to have it lower case. I finally got it fixed and then I locked the drive and placed it in my xboxs and here the really funny part, when I booted up the hdd, it wasn't unleashx it was the original M$ dashboard that loaded up. I'm guessing I just going to have to use the copy hdd command in xboxhdm. I'll try that tomarrow and follow your tut tomarrow because I'm getting tired now. But I'll get back to you tomarrow after I finish it. hopefully it'll work. Thank you so much again.

My xbox has a 80g in it and it's unleashx, it took about 2 hours to copy the hdd, i thought it froze but I kept it running and I now have a awesome xbox. But thank you for all your help. And for the cheats/mods, if your talking about doing it online, you don't have to worry, I'm never online on my xbox playing games. Usually use my computer to do that. But maybe someday when I do play online, I'll find you there. But thanks again for all your help.

EXYBOXY I don't understand what you are saying, are you saying this is better suited to advanced users? because when I found this tut I had never opened a xbox 3 hours later and it would of been 2 If I'd of know about the other case bolt under the sticker I was soft modded, I've added my own beginners findings to make life easier and added coloured sections so people can skip the background info If they wish to because when I was first looking into modding (Noob double O Zero) I found the biggest problem was information overload
Although I am 25 y.o. as where most modders are teens so that makes me better suited for following instruction but booher got there in the end too (and his xbox sounds awesome)
