How to Softmod your Xbox with SID 4.0

Great tutorial but I have a problem.

I soft modded my brothers xbox and it went very well and is working perfectly.

Now I got my own from my cousin for 10 bucks and when i try to CREATE MS BACKUP it says.

"Batch Process Failed. The last item was: FOUND EXISTING SOFTMOD. Action:Rename"

Please help.

That means it has already been softmodded...

Well my cousin is dumb and would never know how to do something like that but he did buy it refurbished like 3 years ago.

That's b/c whoever did it is a dumba** and didn't back up their MS backup. Take a look at the AID4.0 thread I made, download it, burn it to disc and then see if your box will play that disc. If it does, I think there's an ms backup on there that you can restore.

you could ftp and put a fresh ms into E/backup/ but if possible with aid that would be best choice

The weird thing is that is says theres a soft mod installed or whatever but I can't access any of the features of a softmodded xbox. I tried to put my AID disk into it and it wouldn't read it and it worked on my other xbox.

What options do I have?

Can I do FTP without having unleash x?

When you mod your xbox you can then mod your halo 2 maps but thats not the only reason to mod your xbox.

wait so if u bring ur modded maps online youll be banned? not even if ur just playing a custom game?

You only get banned when you put halo 2 on your hdd and try to sing into live.

i moded my xbox acording to the instructions useing 007 agent under fire but when i load up the mod its in black and white then if i try to play games after it has loaded without turning off the xbox my game are in black and white too

hello, I'm trying to install a softmod using your method, everything works perfectly until it says "eeprom backup found, no other softmods installed, please press A to check if your MS dash is 5960. If you get a rename error, please install single or dual gamesave." the next screen then says batch process failed "action: rename." I was wondering what it means by installing single or dual gamesaves ( i do know that my dash is 5960 which is what it was supposed to test for. thanks in advance -double_g

edit- okay now i feel stupid it turns out my dash was 5659 which i somehow misread when i checked earlier sorry, and thanks for the great tutorial

No, you can not softmod a 360 but you can mod halo 2 on a 360.

the way sid 4 is script is so that it needs to be a clean paths so it can do a proper isntall or uninstall with that being said your xbox might of been modded in some way in the past so thats why sid 4 didnt install but at the same time its not fully modded so aid wont run as well

just run the game linux installer once you're on that menu just ftp and replace the ms files with new ms dash files into your xbox then you can try to mod it from there.

Thank you for the very easy to understand tutorial on softmodding. I was able to successfully softmod my Xbox. I do have a couple of questions though that I am hoping to find some answers to. I have looked at this forum and several pages, but do not want to read a thousand posts to find the answers. Please forgive my lack of forum searching knowledge, as I am probably older than the average Joe here.

1. After softmodding my Xbox, I notice that the power light is always red now when playing a game. It used to be green. Why is this?

2. Now that I have softmodded my Xbox, what advantages do I have over my previous non-softmodded Xbox. I was hoping to make back-up copies of a few of my games and see if they would work, but I don't know what software to use to make the copies. I have copy software, but when I inserted "Red Dead Revolver" into my computer, it showed it as 13mb. Surely it isn't just a 13mb program is it? It is on a freaking DVD for crying out loud.

3. I notice many new menu features in the new dashboard in comparison to the default one it used to have. Is there a tutorial on what each of these features are or how to use them? I read the complete .pdf that came with the softmod, but it doesn't mention anything.
