i figured this out bymyself, as did almost eveyone else, but for those of you that still need help, this is for you. Hopefully this will get rid of the, "Oh no! I tried to remove my sm by ftp and now my xbox is an empty shell cuz i deleted EVERYTHHING!" Hope this helps guys, its really simple.
Ok all you need is the game you originally used to softmod, in my case it was Mechassualt. i only spelled it out for the noobs, we use alot of abreviation here, so from now on ma=mechassault etc.
1) remove any mods you have on your xbox, and replace the clean maps. i hope you didn't do what i did the first time and not save copies of the clean maps, if so, have fun d/l them later.
2) Replace the deleted "dirty" maps with the clean ones if you saved them, if not we'll talk about that later. just continue
3)Now put your game u used to sofmod in, and load it up. Run linux and u'll see this
see the red circle? click that where it says uninstall softmod. Now ur backed up eeprom and m$ dash will be restored and the softmod will be removed. and for the noobs, yes u can unsoftmod ur xbox and leave the modded maps on, they will still work. u'll have to restart the xbox and now for those of you who didn't save clean maps! :unsure:
4)
go back online with your fresh xbox with no new maps on it, and thanks to not savin maps, you'll be d/l maps for the next 2 hrs. >.< :wacko:
For those who replaced their own maps
NOTE: I always try out all my maps just to make sure i didn't forget to replace one. one modded map is enough to get u banned. dont waste a year long acct just cuz ur in a hurry to go pwn. you wont be pwning much if u make this mistake. if u just finished d/l maps for 2 hrs, this doesn't apply to u!
do this, it works. Dont ftp and try to remove it, this will do the work for you in 2 min. Dont be dumb, just do it! Hope this helps all the noobs out there, and i dont use the term noob as a deragatory word here, we were all noobs once. some of us leave the stage pretty fast becasue of previous knowlege, and some have to learn more and more stuff to leave this stage. i am one of the latter and i feel ur pain. stick with it, 7sin has taught me alot, and can do the same for you. HOPE THIS HELPS!
