ok this tut will teach the basics of modding, it requires all files necessary to mod even winRAR. So all u n00bs out there enjoy. u dont even have to install a dashboard.
oh the reason im posting it in premium is because i want to check for spelling errors and stuff like that also when i get a new host for my site and i am finished w/ it i dont have to rehost all the files. please dont move to public for the time being.
Ok when i first started off modding, i spent 3 months trying to find a tut that explained
everything, this tut should do just that!
Ok the things you will need
1. smart ftp-

4. action replay-can be found at any gaming store, even block buster
5. the original mech assault (mech assault is what i'm using in the tut, i reccomend using mechassault, it will be easier to follow the tut), splinter cell, or james bond AUF (NOT THE PLATINUM VERSION OF ANY OF THE GAMES, THEY WILL NOT WORK!!!)
6. an awesome ppf (this is for backwash and was made by Kontra)-

8. a brain, an xbox, and a xbox live connection or a connection through a crossover cable.
O.k. to start off (this tut was made by tbone), open up AR and make sure you have the device
plugged into your computer with the memory card in it (for the rest of the tut we will be
reffering to action replay as AR)
Go into AR, all the way at the right you will see the tab "online saves" with a plus sign
next to it, click it. Once it expands you will see community saves and powersaves, click on
community saves.
Now go to "Linux Installer", it should be right at the top of the list. Now choose one (dont
rip, tut made by tbone) of the files that say linux installer and drag it to the memory card
side on the left like so: (note* some will say invalid xbox save or something like that keep
trying different ones untill you get a working one
)
after u drag it over it should look like this on the left hand side:
Now it's time to get the game saves. Now go into the section in AR for your game that you
are going to mod (for me it's mechassault and remember your staying on the right side and
NOT getting it from the middle). Ok now pick a save, anything with evo in it, evo x,
evolution x, unleash x, run linux, will work. I'm using the save Run Linux (exox).
Now again drag the save to the left side, my screen now looks like this:
Now take the memory card out of the device, take it over to your xbox (this tut was made by
tbone) go into "memory" at the main screen, click on memory card then click on both the
saves and copy them to your hard drive.
Now it's time to open up smart ftp, and to start up mechassault (or whatever other game your
using to mod), you can also open dothalo up if you want to get a headstart
.
Ok now in mechassault go into campaign, then run linux. The "modding screen" should come up.
Go into system properties find and write down your i.p. address.
Now go into smart ftp, configure your settings like below: the password is xbox, but where
all the red is put in your own i.p. address you just wrote down.
now you are ready to take the maps off your xbox's hardrive. click connect, it is the button
right below the "FTP" tab. Once you clicked that, a bunch of folders should have popped up.
If they didnt 1. you dont have the right ip 2. try switching your ip to statik on the
"modding screen". Alright now just keep your xbox as is, do not turn it off!
now your screen should look like this:
now go into the e folder>then click on tdata> then click on the folder 4d530064> next click
on $c
now there should be 3 folders, click on the one that ends in 3 because that folder will
contain backwash.map. now take backwash.map and drag it down into the "session queqe" (you
have to click on that tab by "log" for the box to show up)
drag it down like this:
now right click on backwash.map in the queqe and hit transfer. Now the file will be uploaded
to my documents. Do that process once more, let it upload, now you should have two
backwash.map's. Open up dothalo if you didnt already, click open map, then make 2 new
folders, modded maps and unmodded maps. Put one backwash.map in each folder. Alright, now
open up the map in the "modded" folder in dothalo. (just click open Map, then go to your
"modded" folder, click on backwash.map and there you go)
Ok now go to apply ppf, now open up the ppf patch for backwash (it is at the beggining of
the tutorial fyi) in the section where it says "ppf patch".
Now hit "apply patch", after it's done it will ask you if you want to fix the encryption,
click yes. And if it doesnt ask you just go to "fix encryption right next to the "close map"
tag. Now open up samesig 2.
Now in same sig2 click on beginning of string table, now choose the UNMODDED backwash map.
After that open the backwash map we just modded (note* you might have to close it dothalo)
Ok now it will do it's magic, and answer yes to both the questions it asks. Now if you look
in your modded maps folder you will find a backwash.map.map THIS IS THE ONE WE WANT!
In smart ftp delete the original backwash.map, look here:
If you closed dothalo, open it back up, go into, modded maps, now drag backwash.map.map into
the section where you see all the maps. If you dont understand, look here:
Just drag backwash.map.map into that section.
Now just right click on backwash.map.map and rename it to backwash.map
You have succesfully just modded your first halo 2 map, have fun
